TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA: Florida Gov Ron DeSantis announced he plans to dispatch more than 250 soldiers and additional officers to safeguard the Sunshine State in light of a potential influx of migrants from Haiti on Wednesday, March 13.

The former GOP presidential contender's move came amid the wave of gang violence and extensive upheaval that has affected the Caribbean island, as per the New York Post

On Tuesday Haiti Prime Minister Ariel Henry announced he would resign after creating a transitional presidential council as the nation is being pushed to the brink of a civil war.

Haiti is situated about 700 miles off Miami, and as per estimates, more than 276,000 Floridians were born in the island nation.

Ron DeSantis plans to deploy forces to stop 'illegal aliens' from entering Florida

In an X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Florida Gov DeSantis wrote, "For quite some time, the State of Florida has been dedicating significant resources to combat illegal vessels coming to Florida from countries such as Haiti."

He added, "Given the circumstances in Haiti, I have directed the Division of Emergency Management, the Florida State Guard, and state law enforcement agencies to deploy over 250 additional officers and soldiers and over a dozen air and sea craft to the southern coast of Florida to protect our state."

"No state has done more to supplement the (under-resourced) US Coast Guard's interdiction efforts; we cannot have illegal aliens coming to Florida," asserted DeSantis.

According to the Governor's office, the deployed soldiers consist of 23 Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers, 30 additional officers from the Florida Highway Patrol, 39 from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and 48 National Guardsmen.

Furthermore, the state will send around 133 soldiers from the Florida State Guard to the Keys.

The ongoing crisis in Haiti has led to a lack of basic amenities, including food and other critical supplies. Similar to the present situation, the US-Mexico border in Texas saw an influx of Haitian migrants in 2021, and DeSantis' current attempt is to avoid a similar situation in Florida.

In response to the crisis, the US Southern Command sent a Marine anti-terrorist unit to protect the US embassy in Haiti at the request of the Department of State. Furthermore, the US plans to give $300 million to improve security in the Caribbean nation.

Internet applauds Ron DeSantis' plans to safeguard Florida from potential influx of Haitian migrants

One wrote, "Perfect execution, Governor," and another added, "No empty campaign rhetoric, no broken promises about a wall or excuses why it couldn't be built. DeSantis just gets the job done Thank you Governor!!"

"Look at that — doesn’t make excuses just gets it done," expressed a person, while someone else noted, "Sounds like a solid plan! I’m sure your haters will find something wrong with it and know how to handle this better. They seem to know everything."

One more opined, "Always ahead of the curve in performing his job. Leaders lead, from wherever they are." "I have never been happier or prouder to be a Floridian. We have a proactive governor who is always looking out for our well being," shared a resident of the Sunshine State.
