WASHINGTON, DC: To support Florida's efforts to stop illegal immigration, Gov Ron DeSantis signed three bills into law on Friday, March 15, according to The Centre Square

DeSantis said, "We're here today, one, to build off a record of success with respect to combating illegal immigration, if you go back six or seven years in the state of Florida, we were not leading against illegal immigration at all, in fact, we were one of the weaker states."

Since taking office, sanctuary cities have been outlawed statewide, according to DeSantis, and anyone who smuggles fentanyl into communities—which often originates from across the southern border—faces stiffer punishments.

Notably, Florida forbids illegal immigrants from obtaining a driver's license, and it also refuses to accept licenses obtained in states where a social security number is not needed.

Furthermore, DeSantis said that to make sure that workers are lawfully employed in the state, lawmakers implemented E-Verify for companies with more than a particular number of employees.

"The federal government has failed in its responsibility to secure our southern border, leaving states to fend for themselves," DeSantis said.

He added, "In Florida, we do not tolerate illegal immigration, let alone lawlessness committed by illegal aliens who shouldn't be here in the first place. The bills I signed today further enhance Florida's capabilities to uphold the law."

Notably, Senate Bill 1036, which carries a maximum term of 30 years in jail, was signed into law by DeSantis. It toughens the punishment for crimes committed by illegal aliens who have already been deported.

Moreover, House Bill 1451 forbids counties and municipalities from taking 'community' identification cards that are provided by other jurisdictions to undocumented immigrants. As of right now, Florida forbids municipal governments from providing these kinds of identification.

Furthermore, the penalty for driving without a license is increased by HB 1589. If they have two or more violations, the maximum term goes from sixty days to one year in jail.

According to Lt Gov Jeanette Nuñez, the government of Florida will not tolerate the unchecked increase in illegal immigration.

"Under the leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida has provided a blueprint for other states to protect their citizens against illegal immigration. Our administration will not stand on the sidelines and watch as the Biden Border Crisis continues to spiral out of control," Nuñez said.

Internet stays divided as DeSantis signs three bills

People on the internet had mixed reactions and shared their views when Gov Ron DeSantis signed three bills into law to support Florida's efforts to stop illegal immigration.

A user wrote on X, "I can’t even stand to watch the news, nothing nothing at all hopeful," while one added, "Great news." A user also wrote, "Biden ordered @USCG to let the Haitians land so there'll be another power struggle. I predict Florida will also declare itself under invasion."

A person also stated, "Good work Still like him for vp," whereas one mentioned, "How come we can't put the illegals in the internment camps they were going to use for the unvaccinated?"

A person added, "Governors and states have to save themselves because it's obvious the Biden administration doesn't care about our sovereignty or national security."
