WASHINGTON, DC: On Sunday, February 1,  former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed sorrow over the deaths of three US service members, calling the military action against Iran “absolutely unnecessary.”

The fatalities happened during 'Operation Epic Fury,' a coordinated effort carried out by the United States alongside Israel. Greene condemned the mission and offered her condolences to the fallen troops and their families.

Marjorie Taylor Greene criticizes Trump over Iran strikes

United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said that as of 9:30 am Sunday, three American service members lost their lives in action, while five were seriously wounded and “several” others suffered minor shrapnel injuries and concussions as part of the operation.

The US and Israel launched the operation on Saturday, targeting key figures and leadership in Iran, including Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and numerous other high-ranking political and military officials in the Middle Eastern country.

Greene wrote on the social platform X, “My God, these poor military members and their poor families. I’m sorry for them and praying for them. This was absolutely unnecessary and is unacceptable.”

Greene further said, “Trump, Vance, Tulsi, and all of us campaigned on no more foreign wars and regime change. Now, American soldiers are dead."

On Saturday, she slammed Donald Trump and his administration for the strikes against Iran, which came after Trump expressed dissatisfaction with how indirect talks in Geneva went between US and Iranian officials, mediated by Oman.

She said, “No More Foreign Wars, No More Regime Change! We said it on rally stage after rally stage, speech after speech, Trump, Vance, basically the entire admin campaigned on it and promised to put America FIRST and Make America Great Again.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene breaks with Trump and condemns ‘pointless’ conflict

Last year, Greene broke with Trump on a number of issues, notably on his handling of files related to convicted offender Jeffrey Epstein and his authorizing of US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities last June.

That prompted the president to pull his support from his once-staunch supporter in November, with Greene announcing her impending departure from Congress a week later.

Greene later wrote that Trump’s victory over former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024 convinced her it was “finally time to put America First.” But instead, she said the US has once again gotten itself into another “pointless” Middle Eastern conflict.

She echoed claims from Democrats on Capitol Hill, who have cited failed wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the need to focus on problems at home in criticizing the president this weekend.

“My generation has been let down, abused, and used by our government our entire adult lives and our children’s generation is literally being abandoned,” Greene wrote.

“Does war with Iran fix our healthcare system and make health insurance affordable for Americans?? No war with Iran does not do that and the MAGA admin and Republicans aren’t even working on it in any serious way at all,” she further said.

In announcing the recent strikes against Iran, Trump said, “The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties. That often happens in war, but we’re doing this not for now. We’re doing this for the future, and it is a noble mission.”
