Rosie O'Donnell's daughter Chelsea arrested for third time in two months on drug charges
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Chelsea O'Donnell, the 27-year-old daughter of comedian Rosie O'Donnell, was arrested for the third time in just over two months on November 18.
The arrest occurred following a traffic stop in Niagara, Wisconsin. Chelsea was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, along with a slew of other charges.
Chelsea O'Donnell apparently planned to enter an Intensive Outpatient Program before arrest
Chelsea O'Donnell was reportedly a passenger in a car that was pulled over by Niagara Police for having a loud exhaust. Police reports revealed that officers observed "pick marks" on Chelsea's face, suggesting heavy drug use.
A K9 search of the vehicle led to her arrest after a meth-smoking device was found hidden in her bra. Later, during a strip search at the jail, a pill bottle containing meth, Hydrocodone, Alprazolam, and Lamotrigine was discovered concealed in her body.
Chelsea reportedly admitted to using meth earlier that day and shared that she planned to enter an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) soon to seek help. "I plan on starting IOP soon," Chelsea reportedly told authorities, as per Marca.
The court set her bail at $7,500 and imposed strict conditions, including a ban on drug and alcohol use, as well as associating with known drug users.
Chelsea O'Donnell's arrest violates bond conditions amid ongoing struggles with addiction
Chelsea O'Donnell's string of arrests began in September when she was charged with meth possession and child neglect after her 11-month-old son, Atlas, was found living in unsanitary conditions filled with drugs and garbage.
In October, she was arrested again during a traffic stop, and just earlier this month, she was released on bond under strict conditions. Her recent arrest marks a violation of those terms.
At the time, the O'Donnell family addressed Chelsea's ongoing battle with addiction in a statement. They said, "Sadly, this is not new for our family - Chelsea has struggled with drug addiction for a decade. We are all hopeful she will find her way out of this deadly disease."
Rosie has been open about her daughter’s struggles, noting that they have been a longstanding challenge for the family.
Chelsea's legal issues have also affected her relationships with her children. After her first arrest, her ex-partner, Jacob Bourassa, filed a petition to stop unsupervised visits with their three children.
An agreement was reached allowing Chelsea to have supervised visits once a week, monitored by Bourassa's mother. "We have agreed that Chelsea will have supervised visits with the children once a week," a statement from Bourassa’s legal team noted.
Chelsea’s youngest child, Atlas, remains in the custody of his father, Jacob Nelund, who was also involved in the September arrest for drug paraphernalia possession.
