Rosie Perez mocked for her commentary at hyped-up Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul fight on Netflix
ARLINGTON, TEXAS: Rosie Perez faced mockery from boxing fans for her commentary during the hyped-up Mike Tyson and Jake Paul fight that premiered on Netflix on Friday, November 15.
Tyson and Paul were scheduled to meet on July 20, but the fight was postponed after Tyson received medical attention during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles in May for an ulcer flareup, according to ESPN.
Rosie Perez's love for boxing and presence at hyped Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight
Lifelong boxing fan Rosie Perez began tweeting commentary while watching fights a few years ago and currently, 'The First Lady of Boxing' was one of the official commentators of the Tyson-Paul match, per Variety.
During an interview with the outlet she said, "It’s gonna be an interesting matchup. Jake Paul is in his late 20s, and Mike Tyson is 58. Three decades. It’s crazy."

Perez added that she wasn’t thrilled when Paul began his career. She said, "Everyone hated on him when he first got into boxing, including myself. But it was less about hate, it was more about concern. This is a real sport. You don’t play boxing. People can get hurt. People have lost their lives in the ring, so that’s why I was against him. But he just kept going. He kept going and going."
She added, "Mike looking the way he looks now it’s, everyone’s saying it’s a 50/50, chance. Where before they were like, ‘Jake Paul has this in the bag because he’s younger and he does have knockout power.’ He’s knocked out about five of his opponents, but they all weren’t Mike Tyson."
Joining Perez on the commentators panel were Canadian play-by-play commentator and popular combat sports broadcaster Mauro Ranallo, along with former heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr, who faced Tyson in a 2020 exhibition match.

Record-breaking fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul
Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) revealed before Friday's heavyweight bout in Arlington that the Tyson-Paul had generated more than $17.8 million at the gate to become boxing's biggest box-office success in the United States outside of Las Vegas, according to the Daily Mail.
Friday's fight card had registered the highest rate of any US combat sporting event outside of Las Vegas. MVP had expected more than 70,000 attendees at the home of the Dallas Cowboys. In total, the venue has a capacity of 80,000, per the outlet.
Moreover, prices of the tickets on the secondary market ranged from about $60 to nearly $2,000, while MVP was also offering a $2 million VIP experience that included ringside seats.
The fairly one-sided affair between the two ended with Jake Paul winning it 79-73 by a unanimous decision. Paul bowed down to the boxing legend in the final minutes of the blockbuster clash.
