Mike Tyson opens up about non-stop training as he feels 'scared' ahead of fight with Jake Paul
DALLAS, TEXAS: Mike Tyson has revealed his intensive round-the-clock training regimen and expressed nervousness and apprehension about stepping into the ring with Jake Paul for their upcoming exhibition bout scheduled for July 20 in Arlington, Texas.
During an interview with Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity on Tuesday, April 2, Tyson, famously known as 'Iron Mike,' emphasized his commitment to taking the fight seriously, stating, "Whatever I'm afraid to do, I do it."
What did Mike Tyson say?
Tyson opened up about the fight stating, "Anything I'm afraid of, I confront it," he said. "And that's my personality. Like right now, I'm scared to death. But as the fight gets closer, the less nervous I become because it's reality. And in reality, I'm invincible."
Tyson emphasized his rigorous daily training routine, asserting that despite Jake Paul being half his age, he doesn't believe Paul is faster than him. The 57-year-old also acknowledged that his 27-year-old opponent has evolved significantly from his origins as a YouTube influencer.
"That's not the guy I'm going to be fighting," he told Hannity. "This guy is going to come and try to hurt me, which I'm accustomed to. And he's going to be greatly mistaken."
In their discussion, Tyson disclosed that he's currently residing in the gym, fully dedicated to ensuring he attains peak physical condition for the July 20 bout.
Mike asserts that he begins his day with morning rowing sessions before heading to the gym in the afternoon. The former heavyweight champion emphasizes the importance of strength and conditioning in his training regimen.
As per a March announcement from Netflix, Tyson and Paul are scheduled to face each other live on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Texas. The stadium, home to the Dallas Cowboys, can seat about 80,000 people.
Since their 2020 exhibition match, which ended in a draw, Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. have not participated in any further bouts. During Tyson's prime from 1987 to 1990, he reigned as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
With an impressive record of 50 victories, 44 of which were knockouts, Tyson retired from professional boxing in 2005.
In contrast, Jake Paul transitioned to professional boxing four years ago. He has achieved victory in nine out of his last ten fights, securing six knockouts in the process. His sole defeat occurred last year against Tommy Fury, the half-brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
