Sam Asghari shares rare comments on ex-wife Britney Spears following her DUI arrest

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sam Asghari has spoken out following ex-wife Britney Spears’ recent DUI arrest in California, urging the public to respect her privacy while acknowledging that people make mistakes.

While addressing the incident, the model and fitness trainer also reflected on their past relationship, saying he will always have love for his former wife despite their divorce. His comments come as Spears faces legal proceedings and public scrutiny over the arrest.

Asghari addressed Spears’ arrest during an interview with Fox News on Friday, July 24.

"When it comes to people making mistakes, I understand that, but I think everybody deserves privacy and I hope that the press has learned from the past [and] they give her the privacy that she needs," he said.

The couple tied the knot in June 2022 after years of dating but separated 14 months later. Although their divorce was finalized in May 2024, Asghari said he still cares deeply for the pop star.

"Our marriage was very real to me," he told People in August 2025, adding, "It may have been short, but we were together for seven years. I was in love with her, will always have love for her, and wish her the best always.”

Asked whether there would ever be a time when people stopped asking him about Spears, whom he dated for six years and was married to until 2024, he replied, "Never going to happen."

Speaking to Page Six about Spears' recent public behavior, including her standing and dancing through the sunroof of a Mercedes G-Wagon traveling along Los Angeles' 101 Freeway, Asghari said he had not been paying attention to entertainment news.

"I've been really focused on what has been happening in my country," he said, adding, "All my focus has gone towards that and the projects I've been doing. I don't like to really look at entertainment news and I don't like to believe what I see anyway.”

Asghari also said he continues to wish Spears well despite their split.

"The past is the past, and we get to celebrate it, and we get to always reflect on it," he said, adding, "You can't change the past. The things that happened happened. And like I said, I would never complain about one thing that changed my life for the better or for the worse.”

Spears was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence after she was reportedly spotted swerving her BMW in and out of traffic in California. Reports said the singer was handcuffed by the California Highway Patrol in Ventura County at around 9:28 pm local time before being booked at 3:02 am.

She was also taken to a hospital for a blood draw so officials could determine her blood alcohol content before being released from custody. The California Highway Patrol told Page Six that Spears was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and other substances when she was taken into custody.

“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable," Spears' longtime manager, Cade Hudson, said in a statement, adding, "Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time."

Her first husband, Jason Alexander, who was married to the singer in 2004, also commented on the arrest, urging people not to rush to judgment.

"Rumors spread faster than facts, and suddenly someone is being judged before the truth is even clear," Alexander wrote on Instagram, adding, "Britney Spears deserves the same thing anyone else does: facts, fairness and due process.”
