LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Britney Spears is making headlines again, this time over a major deal involving her music catalog. The pop star has sold the rights to a collection that includes signature hits such as “Oops! I Did It Again” and "Baby One More Time,” along with several other fan favorites.

The rights were acquired by the music company Primary Wave. This company is known for actively managing the catalogs it purchases. The deal involving Spears was reportedly signed on December 30. The company is known for finding creative ways to bring classic songs to new listeners and keep the music popular for years to come.

Britney Spears makes a major deal involving her biggest pop hits

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a source confirmed that Spears has sold a stake in one of the most well-known pop catalogs of the modern era. The catalog spans years of chart success and includes hits like “Oops! I Did It Again,” “Baby One More Time,” “Gimme More,” “Circus,” and “Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” songs that helped define late-1990s and 2000s pop music.

Other songs in the deal include “Circus,” “If U Seek Amy,” “Break the Ice,” “Don’t Let Me Be the Last to Know,” “Everytime,” “Gimme More,” “Hold It Against Me,” “I Wanna Go,” “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” “My Prerogative,” “Overprotected,” “Piece of Me,” “Stronger,” “Till The World Ends,” “Toxic” and “Womanizer.”

The exact amount Primary Wave paid has not been shared publicly. It is also unclear what led Britney Spears to make the deal or what terms were agreed on behind the scenes.  Reports say it is still unknown what specific rights Primary Wave actually bought as part of the agreement. Sony Music continues to own and control Spears’ recorded catalog.

It is to be noted that, Spears is not listed as a songwriter on many of her biggest songs, which means most of the value tied to the deal likely comes from the recordings rather than the written compositions and lyrics.

Catalog sale follows years of major changes in Britney Spears’ life

The sale comes after several major personal and career milestones for Britney Spears. The iconic singer was released from her 13-year conservatorship in 2021. After a year, in 2022, she got married to Sam Asghari. Her marriage didn't last long and failed the following year.

In 2023, she released her bestselling memoir 'The Woman in Me'. Universal picked up the rights to the book in 2024, and a film adaptation is now in development. The movie is set to be directed by Jon M Chu and produced by Marc Platt.

Speaking about Primary Wave, the company involved in the new catalog deal, is also known for organizing “flip camps.” These sessions invite songwriters to reuse and rework older songs from catalogs the company owns, which helps create fresh tracks built from classic hits.
