Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani mourn the death of dog Betty: 'She made us all smile for 18 years'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are mourning the loss of their longtime companion, Betty, who died at age 18, with the couple sharing the news in an emotional Instagram post on Saturday, September 5.
The post featured a collection of photos and videos of Betty and the family, highlighting cherished moments shared over the years.
Gwen Stefani shares heartfelt tribute to Betty
Stefani wrote that it was “with the heaviest hearts” that they shared that their “sweet Betty has gone to heaven.” The post included a video set to Stefani and Shelton’s duet ‘Nobody But You’, featuring moments from the beloved pet's life with the couple.
The video showed Shelton, Stefani, and her sons, Zuma, Apollo, and Kingston, playing with Betty. It also included some of Betty’s public appearances, mentions on television, and her cameo in the couple’s ‘Nobody But You’ music video.
Betty was also seen spending time at Shelton’s ranch in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, where Stefani wrote that she “made us all smile for 18 years” and that they would “miss her forever,” thanking her for “all the love and joy” she brought into their lives.
Although the couple doesn't often post about their animals on social media, they are also pet parents to dog Ginger and cat Corn Shelton. They adopted Corn as a kitten in 2024 after he turned up at their home.
Two weeks before Betty’s death, she made a rare appearance on Stefani’s Instagram when the singer decided to crash Shelton’s concert. Betty was seen with Stefani in her trailer before the show, wearing a handkerchief around her neck, with a dog bed ready for her to nap on.
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton previously opened up about Betty
Stefani and Shelton, who wed on July 3, 2021, seven years after meeting on the judging panel of ‘The Voice’ in 2014, had previously spoken about their love for Betty.
In a 2020 interview with CMT, Shelton shared that Betty was originally his pet before he and Stefani got together, but she quickly warmed up to Stefani. He joked that Betty “gets jealous,” adding that she had become “Gwen’s dog now.”
Stefani chimed in that Betty “loves both of her parents very much.” Earlier in July, the couple celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary, with Stefani sharing photos from their July 3, 2021, wedding day, including her floral veil, the couple holding hands during the ceremony, their wedding invitation, and rings.
Shelton shared similar photos, including a full-length shot of Stefani’s Vera Wang wedding gown, as the couple exchanged vows at their ranch in Tishomingo, in a backyard chapel. In May, Shelton reflected on their relationship, saying that although they had been together for a decade, it still felt new to him.
He described that feeling as potentially “the key to happiness.” Shelton also previously addressed rumors of a divorce, joking about contradictory reports surrounding their relationship and emphasizing that he does not “believe anything anymore that I see on the internet.”
