Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton face backlash over alleged pre-taped AMA performance: 'We've been lied to’

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have been facing people’s wrath online after their performances at the American Music Awards on Monday, May 26.
Fans have claimed that the singers did not perform live and their songs were pre-taped for the event, as reported by the Daily Mail.
“We've been lied to,” a TikTok user, who was apparently present at the show, alleged.

TikTok user says they ‘felt like I was in a simulation’
Their video reportedly showed Stefani’s performance shown on a large screen behind the stage instead of her singing live.
“She's not here!” the user eventually declared in the social media post.
Her 48-year-old husband’s performance also seemed doubtful as the TikTok user’s video showed a pre-recorded act from the country music star of his single — ‘Stay Country Or Die Tryin’.

“The craziest part of the AMAs last night was being told ‘and here's Blake Shelton Live’ only for them to light up the stage like he's there, and never saying to us it was pre-recorded. THEN, doing the same thing with Gwen Stefani!” the video creator said.
“I felt like I was in a simulation looking around for him!” they added.
Netizens claim AMA ‘is a recession indicator’

One person commented, “Gwen Stefani performing live! ... somewhere else!”
Another person wrote, “LOL even the performers didn't show up.”
“Makes sense why Taylor wouldn't release reputation at the AMAS,” the third one added.
A Reddit user posted, “I was there. It was weird. Very minimal celebs. Felt like we were lacking big time. I was so excited to see Kendrick, Bruno mars, GAGA obvi, and so many others. No one was announced. I watched the show after getting home and was honestly expecting more celebs to be there. Definitely was C-D list people besides the big ones. The performances were good, but how did they let Alex Warren, a hype house member, perform at this? Must’ve not been able to book the A-B list performers. Definitely agree with this whole thread. Seats weren’t empty tbh. A little bit here and there which allowed me to move down for a better view but it wasn’t sold out and over flowing by any means. Overall, such a cool experience to see the behind the scenes of an award show, but a little disappointed on who showed up/didn’t and who got to shine at the awards.”

Another user said, “This entire award show is a recession indicator.”

“It’s honestly ridiculous to watch an entire awards show where no one shows up to accept their awards. What’s the point? A bunch of pre-recorded messages and empty seats? If artists can’t be bothered to attend, maybe it’s time to retire the AMAs altogether or rethink the format. Feels like we’re all just watching a glorified PowerPoint presentation. Anyone else feel like this has run its course?” a comment on Reddit said.
