50th American Music Awards Worst Dressed: From Sophia Culpo’s blazer dress to Raye’s sweatshirt
The American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special took place on Sunday, October 6, in Los Angeles, California, with several stars in attendance. As the stars dressed to impress during the award show, the same can't be said for everyone. While artists like Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight, and Raye delivered spectacular performances on stage, their choices of attire left much to be desired. Here are ten such celebrities who failed to leave a mark with their ensembles during the AMAs 50th Anniversary Special.
1. Chaka Khan
Chaka Khan opted for a metallic ensemble for the AMAs 50th Anniversary Special, which, unfortunately, failed to hit the mark. The 71-year-old 'Sweet Thing' singer wore a pair of metallic bronze trousers with a sheer lace top. She accessorized with statement silver jewelry along with a chunky cowboy belt and black boots. The 'I’m Every Woman' singer went a notch ahead in incorporating Western elements in the attire through the copper fingers on the thighs of her trousers. Well, too many things were happening all at once in her outfit!
2. Gladys Knight
Though Gladys Knight gave a spectacular performance on the stage of AMAs 50th anniversary celebrations, the 80-year-old songbird's outfit didn't impress much. The 'Midnight Train to Georgia' singer opted for an embellished black catsuit as her choice of outfit for the function, while accessorizing with minimal jewelry. Nevertheless, the octogenarian deserves brownie points for still rocking stilettoes while delivering a spectacular performance.
3. Nile Rodgers
Nile Rodgers wore a satin red suit with a black T-shirt underneath as he attended the American Music Awards on Sunday. The 72-year-old 'Good Times' rocker completed his flamboyant look with patterned shoes and layers of bead necklaces but ending up disappointing with his sartorial choice.
4. AJ McLean
The 'Drowning' singer AJ McLean too opted for bling when he attended the American Music Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles. He paired his black bootcut jeans with a casual black embellished shirt. The 46-year-old singer frosted himself with loads of silver jewelry including mismatched earrings, and bracelets. McLean further hung a string of pearls in his neck to match his dazzling white glasses and completed his over-the-top look with sparkly boots. Too much sparkle, we'd say!
5. Raye
Raye was looking spectacular for her performance later that night on the stage of the AMAs. Unfortunately, the same can't be said about her look on the red carpet. The British songstress opted for a sage green short skirt with a frayed hem, paired with an oversized brown sweatshirt. She completed her look with statement earrings and a pair of comfortable black sandals (though a little too laidback for the gala function).
6. Sophia Culpo
Sophia Culpo opted for a blingy black blazer dress with extra-large sequins. While she accessorized with sleek diamond jewelry, including a string necklace, earrings and finger rings, the sequins of her dress was ready to grab all the attention in the room.
7. Indi Star
Indi Star might have been walking in a park when she decided to attend the AMAs 50th Anniversary Celebration. While we understand the allure of comfortable attire, the Nickelodeon alum looked a little underdressed for the occasion. The actress paired a blue maxi skirt with a full-sleeved brown top. She completed her look with a selection of silver jewelry.
8. Chingy
Howard Earl Bailey Jr, known professionally as Chingy, attended the AMAs 50th Anniversary Celebration in a blue-and-white ensemble. He paired his blue leather pants with a white baseball-inspired shirt with blue borders. He completed his look with silver chunky jewelry pieces and goggles. He broke the dual-tone nature of his outfit with a red cap.
9. Green Day
The band Green Day appeared in an eclectic ensemble. Billie Joe Armstrong paired dress pants with a graphic T-shirt and a rust-colored blazer. His band member Mike Dirnt, on the other hand, opted for an all-black look in jeans and a leather jacket. Tre Cool, however, appeared most casually in black shorts and a black resort shirt for the celebration.
10. Anjani Scott
TV personality Anjani Scott appeared at the AMAs 50th Anniversary Celebration in a fitted denim short dress with a plunging neckline. She added pops of color in her look by painting her nails and toes yellow and wearing a green band on her right wrist. Can't say, colorblocking went right though!
