Savannah Guthrie abruptly exits ‘Today’ mid-show as search for missing mom Nancy continues
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Concern grew among viewers after Savannah Guthrie suddenly left ‘Today’ during the middle of the live broadcast on Wednesday, May 6.
The unexpected exit came as the investigation into her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, continues more than three months after she disappeared from her Arizona home.

Savannah Guthrie left the @TODAYshow set this morning after only 90 minutes.
Everytime she unexpectedly leaves the show, it gives me hope that there may be a break in the case.

Craig Melvin addresses Savannah Guthrie’s sudden exit
The longtime TV host started the morning normally, appearing alongside her co-hosts during the opening segments of ‘Today’. But roughly 90 minutes into the show, viewers realized she was no longer at the desk.
That’s when co-host Craig Melvin briefly addressed the situation live on air.
“Savannah had to leave a little early,” Melvin told the audience, including fans gathered outside at Today Plaza.
He quickly reassured viewers that there was no indication she would be away for long, adding, “She'll be right back tomorrow, though.”
The short explanation immediately sparked fresh speculation online, especially because Savannah’s family has been dealing with the emotional disappearance of her mother, Nancy, since February.
Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance remains unsolved
Nancy Guthrie was first reported missing from her home near Tucson, Arizona, on February 1.
Since then, investigators have continued working alongside federal authorities as the case remains active and unresolved.
While there has been no official suggestion that Savannah’s early exit was directly connected to the case, the timing naturally raised questions among fans following every development closely.
This also wasn’t the first time viewers speculated about Savannah stepping away unexpectedly.
Back on April 15, fans noticed another unusual moment during a live ‘Today’ broadcast. Savannah introduced an interview with Anne Hathaway before the show cut to a commercial break.
When the program returned, viewers saw that Hoda Kotb had taken over the interview instead.
That moment fueled rumors online that Savannah may have received information related to the investigation. However, no official explanation was ever provided.
Authorities say investigation Nancy Guthrie's disappearance is still active
Despite months passing since Nancy disappeared, authorities insist the case remains a major priority.
A spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department told Hello! that investigators are continuing to pursue leads while working closely with the FBI.
“The investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance remains active and ongoing,” the spokesperson said.
Officials also confirmed that advanced forensic work is currently being carried out as part of the investigation.
“DNA and video analysis are underway, supported by laboratories across the country,” the department shared. “Advances in technology are aiding investigative efforts, and tips continue to be received and reviewed.”
