Selena Gomez reveals how she became BFFs with Taylor Swift: 'Best thing we got was each other'

The ‘Wolves’ singer opened up about her friendship with Taylor Swift during her appearance on the podcast ‘Therapuss’ with Jake Shane, sharing memories from their teenage years.

Gomez recalled the moment their paths first crossed, saying, “Taylor and I dated the Jonas Brothers. I dated Nick and she dated Joe. And everything was it was cute, we were young.”
She added, “We all know and love each other now and it’s so cute. We don’t know what we were doing. She and I like to say the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other because it was really sweet.”

Selena Gomez also talked about how, as a youngster, she initially perceived Taylor Swift.
“I was about 15, she was about 18 and that’s when it was the crazy curly Taylor and she had all these bracelets that went all the way up,” Gomez said.
She recalled hearing one of Swift’s biggest hits before the rest of the world.
“‘Love Story’ was the first song she had ever played me and it wasn’t released yet,” Gomez said.

She can still clearly recall that moment, “Yeah, I was in a hotel room and I remember it vividly, it was just one of those songs I instantly heard and thought this is one of the most beautiful songs ever. So, at that age we became best friends, bonded over the breakup.”

Selena Gomez spoke fondly of Taylor Swift’s early uncertainty about her music.
“She was like ‘OK I just want to play you this song but just like you know, I don’t know it’s going to be the first single, I think, I think’ and just hearing her say those little thoughts and just listening to it,” Gomez said.
“She is a chameleon, she’s incredible,” she added.
Gomez also reflected on how their friendship grew stronger through time.
“As girls do and then we I don’t know and then we just stuck around for all the ups and downs that came after and here we are now 16 years later,” Gomez concluded.
