Selena Gomez's mom clears the air after viral post sparks rift rumors with daughters
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mandy Teefey is clearing the air after an Instagram post featuring her daughters, Selena Gomez and Gracie Elliot Teefey, sparked online speculation, with some fans interpreting it as a sign of family tension.
Teefey quickly responded, insisting the post was simply a lighthearted joke about being an "uncool" mom and that there was no deeper meaning behind her words.

Teefey shared a carousel of photos on Instagram, including a mirror selfie of Gomez and Gracie, along with another selfie of the 'Hands to Myself' singer. Alongside the family photos, the post included several memes and inspirational quotes.
Captioning the upload, Teefey wrote, “My greatest accomplishments, love me or not. They are the coolest. I one day they will see what a bad ass I am and love me back as much as I love them. I’m just mom. Who never gives up when they throw me in the trash.”
She continued with a message of encouragement, adding, “I tell ya mom, you’re doing it wrong, maybe so, we will see. But no matter what I got your back.”
While she appeared to be joking about how children often see their parents, some followers interpreted the message differently. Among the responses, one social media user urged Teefey to keep any personal family matters private instead of posting messages that could be misinterpreted online.
She responded directly to the criticism, dismissing the concerns and explaining that the post had been misunderstood. “Girl. It’s [a typical] moms not cool joke,” she replied, “Calm down. Lol.” The discussion extended beyond Instagram after a viral post on X, featuring a screenshot of Teefey's caption, amassed more than 500,000 views.
Mandy Teefey has previously addressed speculation surrounding Selena Gomez
The latest online criticism is not the first time Teefey has faced scrutiny over her relationship with Gomez. The 50-year-old, who shares her life with former partner Rick Gomez and Gracie with husband Brian Teefey, has previously responded to public speculation involving her family.
During Gomez's wedding to Benny Blanco in September 2025, some fans speculated that Teefey was upset because she did not walk her daughter down the aisle. She later shut down those rumors, expressing gratitude that Gomez's grandfather had been given the honor of giving her away.
Teefey also celebrated the wedding publicly on Instagram, writing, “What a perfect celebration for the most kick ass couple I know! The evening couldn’t have been more beautiful and perfect!”
She continued, “All my love to my beautiful daughter Selena Gomez and to the greatest son in law Benny Blanco!!!” while describing the ceremony as “a fairytale come true” and “absolutely flawless!” She co-founded the mental health organization 'Wondermind' with Gomez in 2022 and currently serves as the company's CEO.
The star-studded wedding was attended by Taylor Swift, Paris Hilton, Ed Sheeran, Paul Rudd, and Gomez's Only Murders in the Building co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin.
