WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Eric Schmitt (R-Mo) has issued a stark warning about the state of American sovereignty, declaring that the nation's "mass migration" crisis can only be solved with one solution: "mass deportations."
In an appearance on Fox News, the Missouri Republican argued that the sheer volume of people entering the country - both legally and illegally - had overwhelmed the system and disadvantaged American workers.
Schmitt's comments come as the Trump administration ramps up its immigration crackdown following a deadly shooting in Washington, DC, involving an Afghan national.
Eric Schmitt calls for swift action against migration surge
"Mass migration must be met swiftly with mass deportation," Schmitt asserted, reinforcing the president's hardline agenda.
The senator argued that the current influx was not just a security threat but an economic one, claiming that "elites" were using the immigration system to "pad the profit margins" while forcing American graduates to compete against "cheap foreign labor."
"It's not just illegal immigration. Our entire legal immigration system is broken too," Schmitt wrote in a follow-up statement on social media, signaling that the GOP's target list is expanding beyond the southern border to include visa programs like H-1B.
Senator defends Trump's America First mandate
It's not just illegal immigration, we have serious problems with our broken LEGAL immigration system too.

Schmitt praised President Donald Trump for delivering on his campaign promises, noting that the administration is "fully committed" to removing those who have entered the country unlawfully.
"President Trump ran on it, the polling is sky-high on it, it's what the American people want," Schmitt said, dismissing criticism from Democrats as part of a "Marxist playbook".
The senator's rhetoric aligns with the White House's recent moves, including the 'Project Firewall' initiative and a pause on Afghan immigration, which were triggered by security concerns after the National Guard shooting.
Critics warn of cataclysmic consequences
While Schmitt frames mass deportation as a necessary corrective, opposition groups warn of the human toll.
Reports from civil rights organizations argue that such a program would fracture families and have cataclysmic consequences for the economy and community stability.
Regarding the pushback, Schmitt said, "We're not abandoning anybody, but it's a realist's point of view," he claimed, insisting that a "secure border" is the baseline for any sovereign nation.
