LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Shakira just re-created a meme, and social media simply can't keep calm. The 49-year-old singer shared an image on her social media, which looks exactly like her 1997 meme.

The interesting fact is that this image she created is not from one or two years ago, but it's been 30 years. The 'Hips Don't Lie' singer knows how to keep her fans busy when she is not busy making music and performing.

Shakira recreates her iconic meme from 1997

The 'Dai Dai' singer's image shows she is sitting on a chair wearing white baggy cargo pants, a sleeveless white tank top, and white shoes. No doubt, she recreated it perfectly in a setup with music posters on the wall. The 'She Wolf' singer captioned it, "I feel like I've seen this some time ago. #letscreatetogether" (English translation).

Within a few minutes, the image generated thousands of reactions. One comment showed, "Recreating her own meme. I LOVE HER"; another one shared, "Thanks for updating our meme."

Now, the same image she clicked at the front desk in 1997 at the facilities of El Heraldo de Barranquilla. In the old image, 19-year-old Shakira was wearing a black top, blue denim, and black shoes. The only difference between these now-and-then images is her hair.

The question remains: why is this meme of hers iconic? Firstly, it is one of the oldest memes on the internet. Secondly, it highlights awkward workplace scenarios, especially the turning off of the computer.

The old image shows the singer with dark hair, while the new one shows her with blonde hair. No doubt, the 'beautiful liar' singer knows how to blend in and make herself iconic without even trying.

Shakira created history after she performed the 'Dai Dai' track with Burna Boy, which is the official FIFA World Cup (WC) song for 2026. The track became the first WC anthem to top both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl US charts.

The track crossed 8.6 million official streams, 13.9 million in radio airplay audience and 7,000 sold in the US between July 17 and 23, according to Billboard.

She performed the track at the opening ceremony of the World Cup (June 11) and at the first-ever halftime show (July 19). Well, Shakira was not the only performer at the halftime show. Justin Bieber, K-pop boyband BTS and Queen of Pop Madonna also performed.
