Shannen Doherty pal slams Kurt Iswarienko as report reveals actress finalized divorce one day before death
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Shannen Doherty finalized her divorce from ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko just one day before her passing.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the actress signed a filing to waive spousal support on July 12, agreeing to a "default or uncontested dissolution" of their marriage. This agreement indicated that the two had mutually finalized their divorce proceedings outside of court.

"The parties have entered into a written agreement regarding their property and their marriage or domestic partnership rights, including support, the original of which is being or has been submitted to the court," the documents read.
Doherty, who was battling metastatic stage 4 breast cancer, signed the agreement on July 12, and Iswarienko signed it the following day, July 13, the same day Doherty's death at age 53 was confirmed.
Doherty first opened up about her cancer journey last year. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, she went into remission from 2017 until 2019, when the cancer returned and progressed to stage 4.
“When you ask yourself, ‘Why me? Why did I get cancer?’ and then ‘Why did my cancer come back? Why am I stage 4?’ that leads you to look for the bigger purpose in life,” she explained.
“I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better,” she said. "I’m just not — I’m not done.”
A contentious divorce between Shannen Doherty and Kurt Iswarienko
Doherty and Iswarienko, who married in October 2011, had been involved in a contentious divorce battle. Doherty filed for divorce in April 2023 after 11 years of marriage.
In the months leading up to her death, Doherty alleged in legal documents that Iswarienko was hoping she would die before he had to pay her spousal support. Iswarienko’s lawyer disputed this claim, stating that he had offered a settlement deal in October 2023, which Doherty denied.
“Kurt is not simply waiting for Shannen to die,” at the time, attorney Katherine Heersema said.
“He wants the best for Shannen and he wants both of them to be able to put this case behind them and move forward.”
Shannen Doherty's friend criticizes Kurt Iswarienko
Shannen Doherty's friend, Tara Furiani, has expressed anger towards Doherty's ex-husband, Kurt Iswarienko, accusing him of lacking humanity during her final days. In a heartfelt LinkedIn post, Furiani criticized Iswarienko for how he handled their divorce, which was finalized just one day before Doherty passed away at 53.
"I'm really sad and upset about my friend Shannen's death because of the divorce she was going through at the time, She had stage 4 breast cancer that has metastasized to numerous parts of her body, death was inevitable and she knew that… made peace with that," she went on.
"But, her pain and suffering in the months preceding it didn’t have to be so profound if her husband was just a decent human being. Could have just displayed a little humanity to his dying wife."
Furiani emphasized the challenges Doherty faced, "Life is so hard…life is extra hard with cancer and without the support you thought you'd have. If you have the opportunity to be a decent person, take it. You have no idea what people are dealing with and going through…"
She also urged women to get screened for breast cancer, "Oh, and ladies… please get screened. We shouldn’t be losing people anymore to this. Early detection is critical."
