Shawn Mendes addresses love triangle with Camila Cabello and Sabrina Carpenter in recent tweet spree

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Shawn Mendes finally broke his silence regarding the “noise” surrounding his alleged love triangle with the pop sensations Camila Cabello and Sabrina Carpenter. 

Recently, the 26-year-old singer went on a tweet spree on X (formerly Twitter) where he appeared to address his on-and-off relationship with Cabello.

Shawn Mendes’ recent era of reflecting on his past relationship with Camila Cabello started earlier this week when he appeared on the ‘On Purpose with Jay Shetty’ podcast, and said, “I think Camila and I have just done the best job at preserving our private little fire of love for each other.”

He continued to gush about their relationship, “Because no matter how strong mentally you are, when there are millions of people commenting on it, it's so hard not to be affected by it. This is real love, and it’s confusing and hard. I'm just lucky. She is an amazing human being.”

As the quote went viral, a fan commented on a Pop Crave tweet of the quote, writing, “They don’t play about each other."

Soon, the ‘Mercy’ singer quote-tweeted it himself, acknowledging, “No we don’t.”

Later, as Mendes posted on his X, “Okay i’m here let’s talk, what’re you guys feeling ?? ♥️,” another fan asked him to clarify his relationship. 

While the pair initially broke up in November 2021, they rekindled their romance in the spring of 2023, only to part ways in June of the same year. 

The fan asked, “I feel like you need to clarify what you meant with your last tweet just so the general public and Camila’s fandom don’t take your words and make them into something you might not have intended, does that make sense?”

Mendes replied to the fan, saying, “Here we go i can do that.”

He shared, “I guess to be honest it came from a place of being a little annoyed with all the projection over the last few months about us. I’m usually pretty good at just watching all the ‘noise’ go by but lately it’s been kinda bugging me 🤷‍♂️ feeling human I guess.”

In another post, he added, “And yeah part of me knows quoting a tweet and saying that is gunna start a little spin up and I guess to be honest part of me just wanted to address it and actually have a real honest relationship with you guys about how it feels from my side. I also would love to know how it feels for you.”

Another fan replied to this post, writing, “Media and people online have a way of truly twisting and assuming narratives that they don’t know a thing about. Hope you know we’re here for you tho, we’re just tired of people trying to tear others down all the time.”

Mendes replied to this fan, writing, “I get you too,” before adding, “I also feel this, tired of people bringing other people down also.”

The ‘Treat You Better’ singer later acknowledged in another post, “It’s pretty intimidating to come online and be honest and vulnerable considering how quickly our words can be twisted and used against us but tbh I really just care about having a real relationship with you guys where I got you and you got me and all the rest is just noise.”

The ‘Stiches’ singer and Camila Cabello were initially linked in the summer of 2019 after they released their song ‘Señorita’. 

Following years of friendship and a few more years of relationship later, the pair broke up in November 2021. During that time, they released a joint statement announcing their split. 

However, in early 2023, Mendes sparked a relationship rumor with Sabrina Carpenter after being spotted a few times together. The spell of a new relationship, however, wore off quickly when in April 2023, Mendes was spotted kissing Cabello at the Coachella Festival. 

In June 2023, their second chance romance ended with Cabello reflecting on her short-lived romance during her appearance at ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast in March 2024. 

Mendes’ tweet spree came after Carpenter's latest album ‘Short n’ Sweet’ album created an uproar among the fans regarding the not-so-subtle dig at her short-lived romance with the ‘Treat You Better’ singer. 

After the album was released, fans speculated her songs like ‘Coincidence’, ‘Sharpest Tool,’ ‘Dumb & Poetic,’ and ‘Taste” were all referencing the love-triangle drama. 

Recently, in September, Cabello also released a song titled ‘Godspeed’ that appears to reference her breakup with Mendes.

In the MTV VMA, Carpenter also appeared to perform 'Taste' on stage while Mendes and Cabello were in the audience, giving several fans a sense of high-octane drama.
