Camila Cabello shades Sabrina Carpenter during iHeartRadio performance amid Shawn Mendes romance rumors
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Camila Cabello has once again stirred the pot in the pop world, seemingly throwing shade at fellow musician Sabrina Carpenter during her recent performance of 'Senorita' at the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
The 27-year-old singer left out the word “taste” in a key lyric, which fans quickly interpreted as a jab at Carpenter, whose latest single is titled 'Taste'.
Camila Cabello sparks speculation with playful lyric change
During her performance in Las Vegas, Camila Cabello sang the lines, “You say we’re just friends / But friends don’t know the way you taste.”
However, when it came to the word “taste,” she cheekily covered her lips with her finger and shot a playful side-eye, prompting a flurry of speculation among fans, according to Page Six.
Many believe Carpenter's song may reference her rumored past romance with Shawn Mendes, Cabello’s ex.
Dressed in a stylish leather mini skirt and matching biker jacket, Cabello’s performance drew attention not just for her vocal prowess but also for the underlying drama.
The history between these three artists adds layers to the situation; Cabello and Mendes collaborated on 'Senorita' back in 2019, which coincided with the onset of their relationship.
They announced their split two years later, in November 2021, yet rekindled reconciliation rumors earlier this year when they were spotted kissing at Coachella in April.
Just a couple of months before that, Mendes was seen out in Los Angeles with Carpenter, adding fuel to the fire of speculation regarding their rumored romance.
The timeline of these events has created a tangled web of relationships and friendships, leading fans to reportedly dissect every interaction and lyric for potential shade.
As per Elle, Carpenter and Mendes were rumored to be dating in 2023 after the two were seen leaving Miley Cyrus's release party together but the latter denied the rumors.
However, this isn't the first time Cabello has faced accusations of targeting Carpenter.
Camila Cabello's previous diss at Sabrina Carpenter amid the latter's romance with Barry Keoghan
In late August, Camila Cabello posted a TikTok singing her song 'June Gloom', which includes lyrics that many believe directly reference Sabrina Carpenter and Shawn Mendes, with lines like, “She’s cool, I heard/Won’t act surprised, I saw the pictures.”
Despite the swirling rumors and apparent tension, Carpenter seems to be focusing on her relationship with 'Saltburn' star Barry Keoghan.
The couple sparked breakup rumors recently, but Page Six reported that Keoghan was seen attending Carpenter’s rehearsals for the MTV Music Video Awards at the UBS arena in Elmont, Long Island, earlier this month, suggesting their romance is still going strong.
The couple, linked since December, has had an on-and-off relationship, with reports of their breakup surfacing in August.
Despite this, Keoghan continues to attend her performances.
Meanwhile, Katy Perry’s husband, Orlando Bloom, was also reportedly seen at the arena, supporting her as she prepared to perform and receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
Taylor Swift, who attended the VMAs solo since her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, was busy with football practice, made history by winning seven top trophies, making her the biggest VMA winner ever.
