Sheryl Lee Ralph gets emotional after 'The View' host Whoopi Goldberg asks to return for 'Sister Act 3'
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: After Walt Disney announced a third installment to the 1992 film 'Sister Act' back in 2020, Whoopi Goldberg took it upon herself to invite 'Abbott Elementary' star Sheryl Lee Ralph to join the cast.
'The View' co-host made the offer when Lee appeared on the February 7 episode of the morning show, reported People. While Goldberg, 68, had starred in both the films of the franchise, Lee, 67, had a role in the second movie titled 'Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit', which was released in 1993.
Whoopi Goldberg's proposal to Sheryl Lee Ralph
"Something that’s gonna happen here in order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of 'Sister Act 2,' the producers here at 'The View' are working on putting together a reunion," Goldberg told Ralph.
"And we’re gonna try to get as many cast members on to share memories from the movie. Would you do us the honor of coming back? And as soon as we know when it is, we’ll do that," the host added.
"Oh my gosh! I would love to," replied Ralph, but Goldberg was not done yet.
"I will also do this," she continued. "We’re in the process of putting together [the third movie]. Will you come be part of it? Whatever it is."
The actress appeared emotional as she seemingly shared her agreement with the proposal on the broadcast.

Whoopi Goldberg's role in 'Sister Act' series
Whoopi Goldberg played the leading role of Deloris in the series, a singer who gets placed in a San Francisco convent by the Witness Protection Program after her boyfriend attempts to murder her.
The first movie follows her adventures around the parish, while the sequel shows her returning to the city after pursuing a singing career in Las Vegas to help her nun friends save a floundering school.
Since Disney announced the third film to be in development for streaming on Disney+ after years of lobbying by Goldberg, she has dutifully continued recruiting actors for the movie, including Maggie Smith, who appeared in each of the first two films, according to People.
The comedian had further shared that she would like Keke Palmer, Lizzo, and Nicki Minaj to join the cast of the third film, which is being reportedly produced by Tyler Perry.
