LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ABC’s daytime talk show ‘The View’ has shut down rumors of cancellation, officially confirming that it will return for Season 29 on September 8.

The announcement came Monday, August 26, through the show’s Instagram page, where a teaser video declared that the show would resume following its annual summer break.

MAGA took Joy Behar's remark as telltale sign of possible cancellation

The news arrived after Joy Behar, one of the panel’s most outspoken co-hosts, casually remarked that the team was taping its “last episode” before the summer hiatus began. Her comment was quickly misinterpreted in certain conservative circles as proof that the program had been abruptly axed.

Supporters of Donald Trump, who have long criticized the show’s coverage of the president, seized on Behar’s remark to claim victory.

A White House spokesperson, responding to Behar’s recent jab that Trump was “jealous” of Barack Obama, derided her as an “irrelevant loser” suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” The spokesperson added that Behar should “self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump’s historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off air.”

While the White House went after Behar directly, ABC defended the program against claims that its ratings had collapsed. A network representative pointed out that 'The View' had once again ranked number one in households and total viewers among all daytime talk shows and news programs, holding that position for five consecutive seasons.

Cancellation rumors were fueled by former hosts and Trump officials

Speculation about the program's future wasn’t limited to MAGA figures. Earlier this month, Rosie O’Donnell, a former co-host and longtime Donald Trump adversary, suggested on TikTok that ABC might pull the plug on the show to ease political pressure.

“You know what I just read today? ABC is ‘reviewing the liberal bias’ on 'The View,'” she said, adding, “The show with five women speaking their own opinions. That's the threat now. They say they're not canceling it, they're just 'reviewing the bias,' which is code for, we're gonna cancel it, we're just trying to soften you up first.”

She claimed she had “read” that Disney was reviewing the show for “liberal bias,” which she interpreted as a prelude to cancellation.

“This isn't about bias, this is about obedience. This is about removing any program that doesn't align with Trumpism, soft fascism in full lashes with commercial breaks,” O’Donnell added.

Trump-appointed FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr added to the controversy by warning there could be “consequences” for the program after Behar’s latest comments. Meanwhile, a May report from The Daily Beast revealed that Disney CEO Bob Iger had urged the show’s panelists to tone down their political attacks during “Hot Topics” and lean more heavily on celebrity and entertainment coverage.
