WASHINGTON, DC: The White House has issued a sharp rebuke to ‘The View’ co-host Joy Behar after her latest on-air comments criticizing President Donald Trump, prompting speculation that the daytime talk show could face increasing political and media pressure in the coming months.

During Wednesday’s broadcast, Behar openly dismissed Trump’s recent calls to investigate former President Barack Obama, accusing Trump of harboring long-standing envy.

At an earlier press conference, while deflecting questions about the Jeffrey Epstein files, Trump shifted focus by accusing Obama of “treason” and claiming that his administration had attempted to “steal” both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. In response, Obama spokesperson Patrick Rodenbush dismissed the remarks as “outrageous,” “bizarre,” and a “weak attempt at distraction.”

White House hints ‘The View’ may face cancellation following Joy Behar's Trump criticism

“First of all, who tried to overthrow the government on January 6?” she asked, referencing the violent insurrection at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, largely carried out by supporters of Trump. “Who was that again? That was not Obama.”

Behar went on to describe Trump as jealous of his predecessor, calling Obama “trim, smart, handsome, happily married, and able to sing better than Al Green.”

“The thing about him is he’s so jealous of Obama, because Obama is everything that he is not: trim, smart, handsome, happily married and can sing Al Green’s song ‘Let’s Stay Together’ better than Al Green. And Trump cannot stand it. It’s driving him crazy,” she added.

The segment quickly drew a reaction from Taylor Rogers, a White House spokesperson, who didn’t hold back.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Rogers blasted Behar’s commentary, describing her as “an irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

The statement also made a not-so-veiled threat about the future of the show, suggesting that ‘The View’ “ratings hit an all-time low last year. She should self-reflect on her jealousy of President Trump’s historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off air.”

Network shuts down ‘The View’ cancellation rumors by highlighting record-breaking numbers

In response to the White House's remarks, a spokesperson for ‘The View’ defended the show’s current standing, citing Nielsen data that suggests strong performance in key demographics. “The View is up in total viewers and among women 18–49, versus the comparable weeks last season, to its most-watched in four years,” the spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly.

“The View’ is ranking No 1 in households and total viewers among all network daytime talk shows and news programs for the fifth straight season.”

The controversy comes just days after CBS confirmed it would cancel ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ next spring. While the network and its parent company, Paramount, attributed the decision to financial strain, reportedly a $40 million annual loss, critics, including some within media circles, have speculated that Colbert’s frequent critiques of Trump may have factored into the decision.

Internet reacts as White House reportedly eyeing 'The View' after Joy Behar's anti-Trump comments

A wave of online backlash and support erupted this week after a White House spokesperson suggested that ABC's long-running daytime talk show ‘The View’ could face cancellation following co-host Joy Behar’s pointed criticisms of President Donald Trump.

The rumored threat, which some view as political retaliation, has sparked outrage and applause from opposite ends of the spectrum.

One wrote, “Awww, not the big orange baby being offended at a woman telling the truth about him.”

Another user added, “Another Trump threat to get a show off the air because they talk negatively about him. I guess freedom of speech only applies if you kiss his a**. For all you not paying attention, this is what authoritarianism looks like.”

Others chimed in with sarcasm and disbelief, “Someone who wasn't jealous wouldn't give a crap.”

However, supporters of Trump welcomed the possibility of the show being taken off the air.

One user wrote, “I love how the WH just keeps on messing with these fools.”

Another added, “These women are mean, whiny, b****y, and complain about everything and anything—they are not enjoyable.”

“They should have been canceled years ago!!” one wrote, while another stated, “The View is a disgusting anti-American program that shouldn't be on broadcast TV.”
