Donald Trump talks about his late brother's addiction problem as he provides a simple remedy
During the candid conversation, Trump shared an anecdote from his college years, recounting the tale of a friend who despite initially disliking the taste of Scotch tried to acquire a taste for it for social acceptance.
The former president poignantly illustrated how this pursuit ultimately led to his friend's descent into alcoholism, emphasizing the insidious nature of addiction.
Trump noted, "Because I understand the addiction world. And I have also — not only a brother. I have lost a lot of friends to addiction, drugs, and alcohol. And there are other addictions also, frankly. It would be nice if people would do certain things and live certain ways," as per Mediaite.
He continued, "But you’re not able to — they’re just not able to break it. I have had — I have had friends that are so strong. My brother was a strong person. I have had friends that were so strong, so powerful, they couldn’t stay away from a glass of alcohol. They couldn’t stay away from a drug. They had to have a drug."
The ex-POTUS was talking about his late brother Fred Trump Jr, who struggled with alcoholism for much of his life and died in 1981 at 42. On several occasions, Trump has cited his brother's addiction as his motivation behind pushing for tougher drug enforcement.
In Trump's own words: "The way you solve the problem? Don’t have them." He elaborated on this principle, asserting, "If you don’t have drugs, if you don’t experience early on, you’re not going to have a need for it. You’re not going to have an addiction."
He further extended this advice to parents, advocating for a strict "no drugs, no alcohol, no cigarettes" policy when raising children.
"When people ask me about children, what do you tell them? I say, no drugs, no alcohol," noted the White House hopeful, urging.
