Simone Biles didn't heed pal's warning about wearing Packers jacket to Jonathan Owen's Bears game

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: A friend of Simone Biles had warned the Olympic gold medalist against wearing her Green Bay Packers jacket to husband Jonathan Owens’ Chicago Bears game before she faced backlash for it.

The jacket she wore had Owens' No 34 during his time with the Packers. This raised eyebrows considering the intense rivalry between the Packers and Owens' current team, the Bears.

During Tuesday, August 20, episode of HBO’s series 'Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Chicago Bears', Biles friend told her, "I would be taking that jacket off if I were you," according to People.

Biles, however, went ahead with her outfit choice which sparked quite an uproar on social media. Biles likely bought the jacket in 2023 during Owens' one season with the Green Bay Packers, as per TMZ. 

Owens joined the Chicago Bears in 2024 and signed a two-year contract in March after spending just one season with the Packers. His switch to the Bears added a new chapter to one of the oldest rivalries in the sport.

Biles shares new post with Packers jacket after facing backlash

Biles posted a series of pics on Sunday, August 18, from her time at Soldier Field, where Owens and the Bears defeated Bengals, 27-3, in their third preseason contest, according to the New York Post.

She captioned the Instagram post 'Bear down' and was seen posing inside a suite before cozying up to Owens. Owens and Biles have long been one another’s biggest supporters. 

The Bears allowed Owens to travel to Paris to support Biles, who dominated the gymnastics competition and won gold medals.

Owens was captured at Bercy Arena in France, where Biles took gold in the team and individual all-around events, along with the vault final. She was also awarded the silver medal for the floor exercise final.

Owen's faced backlash for wearing Biles' Olympic medal

Simone Biles' husband Jonathan Owens himself faced backlash in July for wearing her Olympic gold medal after she led the US gymnastics team to victory, as per SI.

The NFL player shared a post on Instagram featuring photos of him proudly donning Biles’ medal and posing alongside his wife. He captioned it, "Witnessing history every time you step on the mat. Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!! Just wow!!!! 8 of them!!!!! So thankful I was there to see it."

However, several people on the internet were not happy with the post and they slammed him online for holding the medal as if he won it. Some comments read, "Why he holding it like he won it" and "That's Simone's gold medal you're holding, not yours my guy."

Another person wrote, "Give the medal back bby thats not yours", while another mentioned, "Don't steal her thunder. She EARNED that medal HERSELF."
