Simone Biles criticized for wearing Jonathan Owens-themed Green Bay Packers jacket to Bears game

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Simone Biles, fresh off winning three gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, attended the Chicago Bears' preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals to support her husband, Jonathan Owens.

Owens, an NFL safety, had been excused from training camp earlier this month to watch Biles compete in Paris.

The couple's public display of support took an unexpected turn, however, when Simone Biles’ choice of attire sparked a controversy of sorts. 

Biles showed up at Soldier Field wearing a custom jacket featuring Owens during his time with the Green Bay Packers, a division rival of the Bears.

The jacket, which depicted action shots of Owens in his Packers uniform with the iconic "G" logo on the shoulders, was likely purchased by Biles last year during Owens' one season with the Green Bay Packers, TMZ noted.

His switch to the Bears has added a new chapter to one of the oldest rivalries in the sport.

In addition to the Packers-themed jacket, Biles was also spotted wearing boots during the game.

The boots were reportedly a precautionary measure after she sustained a calf injury during the Olympics, reported NBC Sports.

Internet reacts to Simone Biles' jacket choice to support husband Jonathan Owens

While Simone Biles was simply trying to support her husband, her choice to wear a jacket featuring a division rival's logo did not sit well with some fans as they made light of her choice. 

"How can she get a Bears-themed jacket of Owens if this is his first year in Chicago?" one user wrote on X.

Another commented, "Not. Acceptable." Someone wrote, "This is bad." Another said, "That's not cool."

However, not all responses were negative. Some users defended Biles, recognizing her accomplishments and the context of the situation.

"She does what she wants," one person wrote. Another commented, "Jeez! Give her a break! She’s been a little busy, you know, being a GOAT. She’ll be ready when the season starts."

One user lightheartedly said, "I’ll give her 1 pass, but if this happens again in the regular season, I think we dock her a gold medal."

Another added, "Her husband is all over that jacket. I think that's what the main thing is for her....God bless."
