SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS: Former Illinois Representative Adam Kinzinger called former President Donald Trump a "professional victim".

Kinzinger, an Illinois Republican, addressed the fact that Trump has been barred from appearing on state ballots in Colorado and Maine, at a CNN panel discussion on Friday, December 29.

They cited Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which prohibits people who have engaged in "insurrection" from holding civilian or military office in the United States.

As a result, both states believe Trump's activities leading up to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot fulfill the criterion in the aforementioned provision in the US Constitution.

Trump's campaign has stated that he will file an appeal in the federal court. However, despite the fact that they stand to benefit from the verdicts, his fellow Republican presidential contenders have questioned the rulings on the former President.

What did Adam Kinzinger say during his appearance on CNN?

Host Brianna Keilar asked Kinzinger, “Trump’s rivals – you’ve heard them – they’re backing him. They’re saying he should not be taken off the ballot for 2024. Politically speaking, do they have any other choice?”

The former Illinois GOP congressman replied, “No. They have to say this. I mean, I’m not saying it’s not principled. I think about half of them are more principled than anything. But in Chris Christie’s case particularly, he’s been clear of his feelings on Donald Trump.”

Per a report by Mediaite, Kinzinger went on to suggest that the Republican candidates cannot officially support removing Donald Trump from the ballot because it would make them appear "weak."

Kinzinger continued, “It does not help you with the base, doesn’t help you with the election. I think this is probably good for Donald Trump politically because he’s a professional victim, a professional whiner and bellyacher. And this allows him to feed more into that ‘he’s such a poor victim’ narrative. So, I think his opponents are saying what they need to say on the campaign trail for now.”

Kinzinger is partially responsible for the recent avalanche of tweets with the hashtag #TrumpSmells after he put out a tweet earlier this month about the abject odor that emanates from the former President.

Since that post on December 15, many others have tweeted detailing their noxious encounters with Donald Trump.

Internet reacts to Kinzinger's comments about former POTUS

The former Illinois GOP Representative has been gaining a lot of traction on X lately, with people giving plaudits to him for speaking up about the Trump-mania inside the GOP.

One X user remarked, "And a professional litigator and the king of delays!"

Another user stated, "I would say that's a very accurate description. Trump is most effective when he has adversity to rail against... like most Republicans these days, he's better at tearing things down than building them up. He did the same thing in NYC for decades... every time someone said no to him, he sicced his lawyers on them and started whining to the media. 4 decades later he's using pages from the same old playbook, there's just a whole new generation of suckers to fall for it."

Another user wrote, "You describe well the reality of TRUMP thats true and for me he is much more than a criminal."

One X user said, "Trump is one of the worst things you can be in America. A SORE LOSER."

Another user remarked, "A snowflake loser."

Finally, this user tweeted, "Didn't mention insurrectionist."
