'Cry about it': Adam Kinzinger trolled for saying Christians backing Trump 'don’t understand' the religion

WASHINGTON, DC: In a bold statement, former Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger of Illinois took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to criticize former President Donald Trump and question the allegiance of Christians supporting him.

Kinzinger condemns Trump's Christmas message

Kinzinger responded to Trump's Christmas post, saying, “I’m going to go out on a NOT limb here: this man is not a Christian. If you are a Christian who supports him you don’t understand your own religion.”

Kinzinger, once aligned with Trump during his time in office, voting in line with the former president about 90% of the time and opposing Trump's first impeachment, has since become one of Trump's most vocal critics.

He described Trump as "weak, meager, smelly, victim-ey, belly-achey" in his latest post, asserting that Trump is neither a Christian nor "God’s man."



 

The former congressman gained prominence for denouncing QAnon and baseless conspiracy theories in the summer of 2020. Following Trump's loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, Kinzinger publicly rejected Trump's claims of election fraud and criticized attempts to overturn the results.

Kinzinger's departure from the Republican Party deepened after serving on the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. Opting not to seek reelection in 2022, he found himself isolated within his party.

Kinzinger faces social media backlash

The former congressman was heavily trolled on social media for his comments about Trump's Christian base.

"Cry about it," one posted on X.

"'Vote for Biden or YOU'RE AN APOSTATE!' Man, the Dems are getting really desperate," another quipped.

"Yeah, I’m sure Kinziger is the expert!" someone else wrote.

"Adam is irrelevant," another declared.



 



 



 



 

Trump's vitriolic Christmas message

Trump recently delivered an incendiary Christmas message on his social media platform Truth Social, targeting various individuals, including President Biden and special counsel Jack Smith.

“Merry Christmas to all, including Crooked Joe Biden’s ONLY HOPE, Deranged Jack Smith, the out of control Lunatic who just hired outside attorneys, fresh from the SWAMP (unprecedented!), to help him with his poorly executed WITCH HUNG against ‘TRUMP’ and ‘MAGA,’” the post read.

The former president's message extended to world leaders, American lawmakers, and those he perceived as threats to the nation.

“Included also are World Leaders, both good and bad, but none of which are as evil and ‘sick’ as the THUGS we have inside our Country who, with their Open Borders, INFLATION, Afghanistan Surrender, Green New Scam, High Taxes, No Energy Independence, Woke Military, Russia/Ukraine, Israel/Iran, All Electric Car Lunacy, and so much more, are looking to destroy our once great USA. MAY THEY ROT IN HELL. AGAIN, MERRY CHRISTMAS!” the former president concluded.



 

Claiming Credit for "Merry Christmas" 

Trump has claimed credit for the resurgence of the phrase "Merry Christmas," asserting in a 2021 Newsmax interview with Mike Huckabee that he played a pivotal role in bringing back the traditional greeting.

According to Trump, during his campaign, he insisted that people say "Merry Christmas" again, countering the prevalent use of "Happy Holidays."

"That was part of my campaign. The country had started with this 'woke,' I guess, a little bit before that. And it was embarrassing for stores to say 'Merry Christmas,'" he insisted.

"You'd see these big chains, they want your money, but they don't want to say 'Merry Christmas.' And they'd use reds, and they'd use whites and snow, but they wouldn't say 'Christmas.'"

"When I started campaigning, I said: 'You're going to say Merry Christmas again.' And now people are saying it," Trump added.



 

Despite his controversies and legal troubles, Trump remains the GOP's frontrunner for the upcoming election, leading with 52.4 percent in over 300 polls, according to The Hill’s partner Decision Desk HQ. Trump also holds a 2 percent lead over Biden based on more than 500 polls.
