This story has been updated to provide accurate information regarding the claim that Somaliland called for Ilhan Omar's extradition in response to JD Vance's accusation.

Update: A viral claim suggesting Somaliland offered US Rep Ilhan Omar's extradition after JD Vance accused her of immigration fraud has been debunked. The claim was based on a post made by @RepOfSomaliland in response to Vance's allegations, which said, "Deportation? Please, you’re just sending the princess back to her kingdom. Extradition? Say the word."

Social media users and major news outlets such as Fox News, the New York Post, and The Independent believed that the account appeared to be an official government page of Somaliland.

However, authorities later denied the authenticity of the statement. The Guardian reported that the X handle @RepOfSomaliland is not associated with the Somaliland government and is not an official account.

Somaliland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement to the publication, saying, “We kindly advise that any news or statements be referenced solely from official and authorized channels to ensure the accuracy and reliability of information.”

Fox News also echoed similar sentiments, noting that the account is not connected to any official government channels.

SOMALILAND: Partially recognized Horn of Africa nation Somaliland has asked the US to send firebrand “Squad” Representative Ilhan Omar to their land after Vice President JD Vance accused the congresswoman of immigration fraud.

He even alleged that Omar “has been at the center of a lot of the worst fraudsters in the Somalian community.”

Somaliland asks the US to send Omar to their country

Republic of Somaliland shared on X, “Deportation? Please you’re just sending the princess back to her kingdom. Extradition? Say the word …”

Somaliland is a self-declared territory, working as a de facto state since 1991. But many nations, including the US, do not consider it an independent country.

Vance accuses Omar of immigration fraud

This came after Vance sat down for a podcast interview with conservative host Benny Johnson, where he claimed, “Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America.”

The politician also shared that he’s been discussing legal steps with White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller: “How do you go after her? How do you investigate her? How do you actually build the case to actually get some justice for the American people?”

During the interview, the 41-year-old leader further revealed that he’s “worried about the immigration.”

“I’m also worried about: What did Ilhan Omar know about what was happening in the Somali-American community? And why was nobody looking into it until, frankly, Donald Trump came along?” Vance said.

Omar has continued to face allegations of immigration fraud over the claims that she married her second husband Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, allegedly her brother, to bypass immigration laws.

But in 2016, the Minnesota Democrat had said that her marriage to Elmi was “a difficult part of my personal history that I did not consider relevant in the context of a political campaign”.

President Donald Trump had also accused her of marriage fraud in December 2025.

He said, “She's always complaining. She comes from a country where, I mean, it's considered about the worst country in the world, right? We ought to get her the hell out, she married her brother in order to get in. Can you imagine if Donald Trump married his sister, if I married my sister to get my citizenship?”

“Do you think I would last about two hours, or would it be less? She married her brother to get in, therefore she’s here illegally. She should get the hell out, throw her the hell out,” Trump added.

Regarding the fresh allegations, Omar's chief of staff, Connor McNutt, said, “This is rich coming from someone who literally said they were willing to ‘create stories’ to redirect the media. This is a ridiculous lie.”
