NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: South Carolina Rep Nancy Mace appeared alongside co-host Pete Hegseth to discuss why former president Donald Trump has her support in the upcoming election on the February 24 episode of 'Fox & Friends'.

Though Trump enjoys Mace's backing at present, it had not always been so as Hegseth recalled that the congresswoman had stopped supporting the business tycoon after the Capitol riot of January 6, 2021. She had then extended her support to Nikki Haley, with Trump endorsing her opponent in the Congressional race. However, Mace managed to win it and has surprisingly switched her support back to Trump ahead of the 2024 elections.

Why does Nancy Mace support Donald Trump for President?

"I listen to the voters," Mace told Hegseth when the latter asked her why she supported Trump.

"I look at three years of Joe Biden (and) this was an easy call, supporting Donald Trump," Mace said.

"When you look at the number 1 issue that concerns voters today, that's immigration and the border. (Trump) had the most secure border that we have had in decades. With Title 42, Remain in Mexico, building over 450 miles of wall at a southern border - that's the primary issue that people care about," she added.

Mace predicted Trump's victory in the South Carolina primary, which was taking place the very same day. He did go on to fulfill the prediction, by winning 47 out of 50 delegates, with a vote share of 59.8%, according to The New York Times. Haley trailed behind him, with a vote share of 39.5% and 3 delegates.

Nancy Mace's message for Nikki Haley

Mace hoped for the former UN Ambassador to drop out of the GOP primary race and "help unite the party."

"What we don't want to do is continue to take shots at the presumptive nominee ... We need to take all of our energy and put it against Joe Biden," she stated.

"A lot is at stake, and I believe that this is the most consequential election of our lifetime," she continued. "It's time to gather around the man who can lead our country, and that man is Donald Trump," Mace added.
