Stephen Colbert brutally trolls Don Jr and Eric over Trump's beard bias while picking his running mate
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Stephen Colbert, host of 'The Late Show', opened his recent broadcast with a humorous jab at the Trump family, particularly aimed at Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump.
Colbert, known for his sharp wit, didn't hold back as he poked fun at a topic he knows would resonate with his audience.
Stephen Colbert takes aim at GOP convention and Trump dynasty
Turning to the political arena, Colbert couldn't resist targeting the upcoming Republican convention and the Trump family's involvement.
"Donald Trump is gearing up for next week's Republican convention in Milwaukee, and guess what? 'The Late Show' will be there live all next week, bringing you the latest updates from the event where you're bound to spot your brother-in-law looking just as you'd expect," Colbert teased.
He went on to mock the convention's themes, announced recently by the GOP.
"Over the next week, it's going to be 'Make America Wealthy Once Again,' 'Make America Safe Once Again,' 'Make America Strong Once Again,' and of course, 'Make America Great Once Again.' M-A-S-A, or as it's known in certain circles, the incantation that summons Steve Bannon," Colbert joked, adding his signature satirical touch.
Colbert didn't shy away from lampooning the significance of the convention, describing it in his trademark style.
"This convention is being heralded as ground zero on the road back to the White House. Although, someone should remind them that 'ground zero' isn't exactly where you want to start things," Colbert deadpanned, prompting laughter from the audience.
With his usual blend of humor and political commentary, Colbert managed to deliver a pointed critique of the Republican Party's alignment with Trumpism.
"According to the party platform writers, this convention marks the complete absorption of the Republican Party into the Trump hive mind," Colbert remarked, setting the stage for his next quip.
Colbert highlights Trump's bearded bias amid VP speculation
The segment then shifted gears as Colbert segued into a topical news item involving Donald Trump's reported aversion to facial hair in his political allies. "It seems Trump may have vetoed Senator JD Vance as a vice presidential pick just because Vance has a beard," Colbert reported, citing a recent CNN interview.
"Trump doesn't like beards? Why would he hate..." Colbert paused dramatically as a picture of Eric and Don Jr Trump, both sporting beards, flashed on the screen. "Ah, I see," Colbert chuckled, wrapping up the segment with a knowing grin.
