Stephen Colbert baffled by Trump's bizarre comparison of Harris to wife Melania in Elon Musk interview
WASHINGTON, DC: 'The Late Show' host Stephen Colbert scrutinized Donald Trump’s Monday night conversation with Elon Musk, noting that the discussion, which started with technical issues, “only got weirder” as it went on.
Among the most peculiar moments was Trump’s comment about Vice President Kamala Harris, which Colbert found particularly baffling.
Trump compares Kamala Harris to Melania Trump, Colbert mocks odd comment
During the interview, Trump remarked on a Time magazine cover featuring a drawing of Harris, saying she looked like “the most beautiful actress ever to live.”
Trump then added, “Actually, she looks very much like our great first lady, Melania.” Colbert found this comparison especially odd, given Trump’s well-known animosity toward Harris.
To break down the unusual statement, Colbert performed an impression of Trump, attempting to make sense of the remark. “Look, what I’m saying is that I hate this woman with every fiber of my being. Reminds me...” Colbert began, but was interrupted by the audience’s laughter. “You know where I’m going,” he said, leaving the punchline hanging.
Harris campaign responds with sharp rebuttal
Stephen Colbert continued to reflect on the interview, saying, “Once the conversation got rolling, it only got weirder. Here’s Trump complaining about Kamala Harris looking good on the cover of Time Magazine.”
He recounted Trump’s comments: “I saw a picture of her on Time Magazine today. She looks like the most beautiful actress ever to live. It was a drawing, and actually, she looked very much like our great first lady, Melania.”
The Harris campaign swiftly responded with a statement titled “Our statement on whatever that was,” which was sharply critical of Trump’s remarks. As Colbert put it, this response was “scathing,” or as Trump might say, “scathing.”

In the midst of the uproar, Stephen Colbert said that Musk had extended an invitation to Harris via Twitter, suggesting, “'Happy to host Kamala on X'. Madam Vice President, you should do it—do not pass up this rare opportunity.”
Colbert humorously added, “To wait for an hour and then sound like Elmer Fudd,” making a playful jab at the situation and adding to the ongoing media frenzy.
