WASHINGTON, DC: White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller made a shocking statement on Thursday, August 7, as he claimed that Washington, DC, is "more violent than Baghdad" after President Donald Trump warned of federalizing the city.

Trump threatened to federalize Washington, DC, as former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employee and Elon Musk protege Edward Coristine was severely beaten by a gang of youths during a failed carjacking.

Stephen Miller says Donald Trump will take action to make DC safe

Stephen Miller said in an interview with Kellie Meyer, "The president has been very clear that he’s gonna take the action necessary to secure the city of Washington for the people who live here, for all the American people, and all who visit here."

"It’s our capital city, it is more violent than Baghdad, it is more violent than parts of Ethiopia and parts of many of the most dangerous places in the world," he added.

He further mentioned, "It’s really shocking if you actually look at the graph that has been shown comparing parts of some of the most dangerous failed states in the world compared to DC. DC is more violent and so he’s gonna do what’s necessary to make sure our nation’s capital is safe for all Americans."

Following the incident with Coristine, Trump wrote in a Truth Social post, "Crime in Washington, D.C., is totally out of control. Local ‘youths’ and gang members, some only 14, 15, and 16 years old, are randomly attacking, mugging, maiming, and shooting innocent Citizens, at the same time knowing that they will be almost immediately released."

He further warned, "They are not afraid of Law Enforcement because they know nothing ever happens to them, but it’s going to happen now! The Law in D.C. must be changed to prosecute these ‘minors’ as adults, and lock them up for a long time, starting at age 14… If this continues, I am going to exert my powers, and FEDERALIZE this City."

Musk also called for DC to be federalized to crack down on crime, whereas CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings said that "the plight of American hero Big Balls" had "set off a firestorm" within the GOP.

Internet sides with Stephen Miller's claims about violence in DC

Several internet users sided with Stephen Miller as he claimed that Washington, DC, is "more violent than Baghdad" after Donald Trump warned of federalizing the city.

A user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "He’s not wrong, DC is a huge cesspool," while one added, "He's right. Baghdad is much safer."

A person said, "The nation's capital should be one of the nicest cities in the country, not one of the worst," while someone else mentioned, "Great. We need law and order in heart of our nation. Just like we need law and order in NYC."

One more remarked, "It should be an example of what a nations capital stands for regarding safety," with another writing, "Stephen Miller is always on point. DC needs saving. Every major city controlled by Democrats does."

"DC needs to be federalized. Our nation’s capital should not be overrun with violent thugs," another tweet read.
