NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'The Daily Show' host Jon Stewart has expressed skepticism regarding Donald Trump and his supporters' assertion that the financial fraud he engaged in for years in New York was a "victimless crime".

Stewart detailed on March 25 how Trump would exaggerate the worth of his assets, such as inflating the size of his apartment, in order to obtain loans, and subsequently undervalue these same assets to evade taxes.

Jon Stewart critiques Trump's 'sophisticated real estate practice'

According to Stewart, this practice was all part of what he described as a "very sophisticated real estate practice known as lying".

The consequences of such actions are far from "victimless," according to Stewart.

"First, the banks got paid back at lower interest rates ― although, to be honest, who gives a shit?" he remarked. "But second, money isn’t infinite. A loan that goes to the liar doesn’t go to someone giving a more honest evaluation".

Stewart argued that this creates incentives for corruption. Furthermore, he highlighted that Trump's dishonesty on his taxes resulted in financial losses for New York City.

He said, "So the system becomes incentivized for corruption. And this is part of a different Trump fraud case. But avoiding taxes hurts all of us".

On March 25, Trump received a financial reprieve when a New York court ruled that he was not required to pay the full $464 million bond in his fraud case while it undergoes appeal.

Instead, he was given a 10-day deadline to come up with $175 million.
