Donald Trump trolled for calling Sen Mitt Romney ‘total loser’ while endorsing likely replacement
WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump mocked GOP Sen Mitt Romney while endorsing a candidate to replace the retiring Senator.
The Republican presidential candidate announced his endorsement for Trent Staggs, the mayor of Riverton, Utah, to compete for the Senate seat from the Beehive State, according to The Hill.
"Trent Staggs is 100% MAGA, and is running to fill The Mitt Romney, a Total Loser, Seat as the next Senator from the Great State of Utah!" Trump said on Truth Social on Saturday, April 27.
Romney, a vocal critic of the ex-president, voted to convict Trump in both impeachment trials against him. Furthermore, in December 2023, the Utah congressman declared he would not support the MAGA spearhead in the 2024 presidential election. According to him, Trump's perceived "authoritarian rulings and interests" are "dangerous for the country."
Trump lists Trent Staggs' achievements
The Republican White House hopeful tried to persuade the Riverton mayor to endorse him by highlighting his accomplishments.
"A Highly Successful Entrepreneur, who has served brilliantly as Mayor of Riverton for the past six years, Trent knows how to Create Jobs, Stop Inflation, Grow the Economy, and Secure the Border," Trump wrote.
In addition, the GOP presumptive nominee gave a picture of the possible accomplishments Staggs could achieve if he got elected to the Senate.
"As your next Senator, Trent will help us Unleash American Energy, Support our Military/Vets, and Protect our always-under-siege Second Amendment. Trent Staggs has my Complete and Total Endorsement - He will be a GREAT Senator and never let you down!" Trump added.
Last year, Romney announced he would not seek another term in the upper chamber after the completion of his term in September, paving the way for "new generation leaders." The GOP Senator has had a long public service career spanning 25 years across various positions.
Staggs, who announced his Senate race in May 2023, had referred to Romney as a "Massachusetts millionaire."
The Trump ally welcomed the former president's support, writing on X, "I'm honored to have the endorsement of Donald Trump!"
Internet mocks Trump

One user wrote, "You're such a mean girl."
Another remarked, "Sounds like you envy him. Quite the list itemizing all that you couldn't AND didn't accomplish."

Quite the list itemizing all that you couldn't AND didn't accomplish.
"Thanks for letting everyone know NOT to vote for Trent," a user added. Meanwhile, another response read, "The kiss of death for Staggs, your endorsement!"
Another user quipped, "Your endorsement means he will lose Dondo."
"Trump, please stop picking candidates. You're not very good at it. They don't need to end up with a #Democrat Senator from Utah," someone else said.
An individual added, "Real 'write your own recommendation letter and I'll just sign it' vibes."
