NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Sunny Hostin made it clear on Tuesday’s episode of ‘The View’ that she isn’t rolling out the welcome mat for Tucker Carlson anytime soon.

Hostin reacted to Carlson’s recent attempt at soul-searching over his past support for President Donald Trump. Carlson, who had once campaigned for Trump, said on his own show that he regrets backing him in light of tensions surrounding Iran.

“I do think it’s like a moment to wrestle with our own consciences. You know, we’ll be tormented by it for a long time. I will be, and I want to say I’m sorry for misleading people, and it was not intentional. That’s all I’ll say,” Carlson said.

Hostin slams Carlson's u-turns on Trump

On Tuesday, Hostin argued that Carlson’s sudden change of heart doesn’t exactly scream credibility.

“Whatever. I don’t believe him,” she shot back. “He’s not getting a bear hug from me. I don’t think — you know, the world’s on fire and you can’t just say, ‘oopsies.'”

That “bear hug” jab was a callback to her recent on-air clash with co-host Joy Behar over whether to embrace former Trump allies who’ve since turned on him, including Marjorie Taylor Greene. “In terms of welcoming her with open arms like Joy wants to do and give her a big bear hug, I’m not gonna do that,” Hostin had said last week.

She pointed to a 2021 text message unearthed during the Dominion defamation lawsuit involving Fox News, where Carlson admitted he “passionately” hated Trump.

A couple of years later, Carlson was back in Trump’s corner.

“In 2021, he texted someone and said that he hated Trump passionately, and then two years later, he said, I’m voting for Trump. and then in 2024 he endorsed him for president,” Hostin said. “So now all of a sudden [in] 2021 you hated him, and now all of a sudden you want me to forgive you for this situation? No, thank you, Tucker Carlson!”

Carlson’s past involvement with Trump wasn’t casual. His brother Buckley Carlson was involved in speechwriting, and Tucker actively campaigned for Trump. Now, he’s pivoted to criticizing the MAGA movement and arguing that the President and his supporters should take responsibility for the current geopolitical climate.

Carlson’s regret tour and Trump’s counter

Carlson’s recent remarks go beyond just an apology for supporting Trump. He’s openly questioned the President’s character, claiming that red flags were there all along and largely ignored.

“The question does present itself immediately, like, what is this? Was this always the plan? You don't want to be a conspiracy nut, but, like, clearly there are signs of low character. We knew that. But it didn't... there are tons of people of low character who outperform their character," Carlson said.

He also revealed he was “horrified” by Trump’s warning that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if a deal with Tehran didn’t materialize.

In a separate interview with Newsmax, Carlson said, "I've always liked Trump and still feel sorry for him, as I do for all slaves," while claiming the President “can't make his own decisions” and is “hemmed in by other forces.”

Of course, Trump hasn’t exactly stayed quiet. Earlier this month, he blasted Carlson on social media. "Flailing fools like Tucker Carlson, who couldn't even finish college, he was a broken man when he got fired from Fox, and he's never been the same. Perhaps he should see a good psychiatrist!" he wrote on Truth Social.
