WASHINGTON, DC: In a surprising move following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he will not seek reelection, Taylor Swift’s fans have launched a new social media campaign to rally support for Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee.

As part of this campaign, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram pages titled 'Swifties for Harris' have been started to get the singer's attention.

The bios of these new pages read: “Coalition of Swifties ready to mobilize Taylor Swift fans to help get Democratic candidates elected down the ballot this November!” This grassroots initiative highlights the enthusiasm of Swift’s supporters to continue advocating for the policies she previously endorsed.

President Biden announced on Sunday, July 21, that he is ending his campaign for president "in the best interest of my party and the country". He also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic presidential nominee.

Taylor Swift had been a vocal supporter of both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2020 presidential election.

In an interview with V Magazine, she expressed her commitment to their leadership, saying, "I will proudly vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in this year's presidential election. Under their leadership, I believe America has a chance to start the healing process it so desperately needs."

The singer also emphasized the importance of electing leaders who recognize the needs of marginalized communities. The change "we need most is to elect a president who recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included,” Swift said.

"Everyone deserves a government that takes global health risks seriously and puts the lives of its people first. The only way we can begin to make things better is to choose leaders who are willing to face these issues and find ways to work through them."

Despite her past endorsements, Swift has not yet publicly supported any candidate for the 2024 election. Earlier this month, a doctored image falsely portraying Swift endorsing Biden for the upcoming election made rounds on social media, complete with a caption and 'Biden-Harris 2024' label.

Internet reacts to Swifties' new campaign

As Taylor Swift fans rally to support Kamala Harris following President Joe Biden's exit from the 2024 race, reactions on social media are pouring in.

A social media user tweeted, "Let’s go #SwiftiesForHarris! Let’s help Kamala Harris beat Trump and save our democracy!"

Another said, "I hope Tay stays out of this mess!!!!!"

A third claimed, "Let's go."

"OMG this is the BEST of all worlds! What will the Harris cookies look like?" read a tweet.

"WooHoo!," expressed an individual.
