Tim Walz failed to answer Kamala Harris' first phone call offering VP gig, Internet says 'he's one of us'
WASHINGTON, DC: When Kamala Harris called Minnesota governor Tim Walz on Tuesday morning, August 6, to ask him to be her running mate for the 2024 presidential race, he reportedly didn’t answer her call.
Interestingly, the governor declined to answer "because it was from a blocked number and he didn't want to miss a call from Harris," CNN reported.
Tim Walz missed Kamala Harris' first call
ABC News’ Selina Wang shared the claim on X, stating that Tim Walz initially ignored what was presumably the most important phone call of his life “because it said no caller ID.”
She wrote, "This morning when Harris called governor Walz to share the news, he didn’t answer at first because it said no caller ID, a source tells me. So Harris had to call again. The second time Walz picked up the phone call."

Harris had to call him again and Walz answered, according to the report. The gaffe was not included in Harris' video released on Tuesday, August 6, which appears to show her calling Walz to share the exciting news that he would be joining her on the Democratic ticket.
JD Vance also couldn't reach Tim Walz
Kamala Harris was not the only one who had difficulty contacting Tim Walz. JD Vance, Donald Trump's running mate, told reporters he had also unsuccessfully attempted to call Walz.
“I actually called Tim Walz,” Vance said, explaining he was trying to offer his congratulations, acording to Daily Beast. “I left a voicemail, I didn’t get him,” said Vance.
Harris posted a video of a call to Walz offering him to be her running mate on Tuesday, August 6. "When I called @Tim_Walz this morning to ask him to join our campaign, I shared my deep level of respect for him and the work we've done together. We're going to unify this country and we're going to win," she posted.

Walz responded by saying, "It is the honor of a lifetime to join @kamalaharris in this campaign."
He added, "I’m all in. Vice President Harris is showing us the politics of what’s possible. It reminds me a bit of the first day of school. So, let’s get this done, folks! Join us."
