NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In a fiery appearance on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe,' Minnesota Governor Tim Walz didn't hold back while discussing former President Donald Trump's attempts to win over voters in key midwestern states ahead of the 2024 election.

Speaking with host Jonathan Lemire, Walz dismissed Trump's chances in Minnesota and criticized the former president for burdening the state with unpaid security bills, as reported by The Raw Story.

Walz began by laughing off Trump's claims of previous victories in Minnesota, pointing out that Trump only received 45 percent of the vote in 2020.

"Well, he said he won it before so that's what Donald Trump says. I remind folks that Joe Biden came closer to winning in Texas than Donald Trump did in Minnesota. With that being said, look it is going to be close," Walz quipped.

Highlighting the stark contrast between campaign visits from Joe Biden and Trump, Walz noted the tangible benefits Minnesotans experience when Biden visits compared to the financial strain left by Trump's appearances.

"Look, when Joe Biden comes out to Minnesota, he brings jobs and decency. Donald Trump is on his grievance tour and he leaves us with bills for his security," Walz explained. Walz didn't stop there, taking a swipe at Trump's handling of key issues during his presidency.

"What do you hear from the Trump administration other than grievance and retribution? Look, esteemed epidemiologist Donald Trump did nothing during Covid. Now he's going to solve the Middle East crisis and climate change, you know, on the first day, immigration? Not going to happen," he expressed.

It's noteworthy that a Republican hasn't won Minnesota in a presidential election since Richard Nixon's landslide victory in 1972. Despite this, a recent poll indicates a competitive race between Biden and Trump in their 2024 rematch, according to Fox News.

Conducted by the Star Tribune, MPR News, and KARE 11, the poll shows Biden with 45 percent support among likely voters in Minnesota, compared to Trump's 41 percent.

This isn't the first time Trump has faced accusations of failing to pay his debts. Throughout his business career and presidency, Trump has been repeatedly criticized for not paying contractors, workers, and municipalities for services rendered, as reported by USA Today.

Tim Walz's critique of Donald Trump resonates online

The internet quickly rallied behind Walz's critique of Trump, with social media users lambasting Trump.

One X user remarked, "Trump’s reputation as a deadbeat and swindler - decades in the making - is well deserved."

Another added, "Deadbeat Trump doesn't pay his bills. He's a liar, a cheat, a thief. MAGA doesn't care because he hates the same people they hate, which is anyone who doesn't fall into the stupid-think about our government that Reagan began."

A third user commented, "This is how Trump got to where he was (before he was indicted, tried & convicted). Hype, lies, and never keeping his word to anyone. Paying workers and contractors much less than they were promised, even in writing, by threatening to sue. He cheats as easily as he breathes."

A fourth user noted, "Everywhere he went he left bills, debts, he would not pay. He has been doing that his whole life."

This sentiment was echoed by another user who wrote, "@BidenHQ Looks like you can add deadbeat to the list of things Trump is. Minnesota isn't the only state or city he hasn't paid his bills."

One user suggested a collective legal action, writing, "It is what Trump does in every state and still they left him keep coming back......they really should do a combined lawsuit for money owed each state his shitty hate rallies are being held."

Another user bluntly stated, "The big orange felon still owes many cities money from the 2016 campaign, he never pays his bills."

Lastly, a user simply said, "He owes everyone."
