The 72-year-old mother of Beyonce took to Instagram on Friday, September 4, to celebrate her elder daughter’s birthday by sharing a special hospital photo from the day she was born. In the picture, Tina stares at her newborn daughter, whom she described as taking nine hours to arrive.

“Reminiscing on this day 45 years ago,” Tina captioned the photo, “You took nine hours to come. And I am exhausted in this photo, but the happiest I’ve ever been in my life up to this point on this day. We are making our first eye contact.”

The proud mom also praised Beyonce’s character, writing, “Out of all the beautiful things about you, the thing I love the most is your huge heart! It is the thing that I’m the most proud of. You are an extraordinary human being first.”

Tina also referenced the outside commentary she has faced throughout her career. “Even through all the sometimes terrible noise you keep going and moving forward,” she wrote, praising her daughter for “Creating, loving, lifting up others, constantly making history,” while also highlighting her “genius mind,” hard work, and ability to mind her own business.

Tina Knowles says Blue Ivy is 'just like her mama'

Tina has also been taking notice of the similarities between her granddaughter Blue Ivy Carter and Beyonce. On May 19, Tina received a Gracie Award for her audiobook, 'Matriarch', and spoke about being brought to tears after seeing 14-year-old Blue Ivy attend the Met Gala.

“She’s just like her mama because she’s a huge talent,” Tina said of Blue Ivy, also praising how poised she is. “I mean, the Met Gala, I couldn’t do it,” she continued and added, “And so I was like, look how poised she is on the red carpet and how she knows exactly what she wants. Yeah, it made me very proud.”

Blue Ivy attended the 2026 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City alongside Beyonce, despite the event’s 18-and-over limit. She wore a white strapless Balenciaga gown with an unzipped jacket, sunglasses, and silver Jimmy Choo stilettos.

“I think she looks so incredible,” Beyonce said of Blue Ivy to Vogue. The appearance marked the 'Single Ladies' singer's first Met Gala in 10 years, and she served as a co-chair alongside Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour.

Tina previously recalled becoming emotional while watching the mother-daughter duo at the event. “I got really emotional, shed a few tears,” she admitted. She explained that Beyonce had her first red carpet at 15, while Blue Ivy was 14, making the moment feel like “deja vu.”
