NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Beyonce made a commanding return to the 2026 Met Gala, marking her first appearance at the event in nearly a decade. Serving as one of this year’s co-chairs, her comeback drew immediate attention as she stepped onto fashion’s most closely watched carpet after her absence since the 2016 edition themed ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.’

She arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art alongside Jay-Z and Blue Ivy Carter. This year’s theme, “Costume Art,” was presented in connection with the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, while the official dress code for the evening was “Fashion Is Art.”

Beyonce commands Met Gala 2026 carpet in skeleton inspired statement look

Beyonce owned the 2026 Met Gala carpet in a striking body-hugging ensemble that moved away from Americana influences. Her dress featured skin-tone mesh covered in an embellished diamond skeleton motif that extended into matching gloves.

The look was designed by Olivier Rousteing, whom she described as “somebody who has been so loyal to me,” referencing their long-standing creative partnership built on bold red carpet moments. Over the gown, she wore a dramatic feathered opera coat that doubled as a train and required five people to carry it up the Met steps.

Her signature golden hair was styled in crimped curls with extra-long extensions, topped with a sun-shaped headpiece. Reflecting on the moment, Beyonce said, “It feels surreal, because my daughter is here. I am excited to experience it through her eyes.”

She also spoke about the theme’s inclusive message, saying it celebrates all body types, “Juicy, curvy, thin, [just] celebrating whatever God gave you.” Speculation also surrounded her appearance, with some suggesting it could signal the beginning of the long-awaited ‘Act III,’ rumored to be a rock album, fueled by recent unusual social media activity.

The exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art focuses on “the centrality of the dressed body in the museum’s vast collection,” according to curator Andrew Bolton.

Blue Ivy Carter makes Met Gala debut in white couture ensemble

Blue Ivy made her Met Gala debut alongside her mother, adding a family highlight to the evening. She wore a white bubble-hem gown paired with a structured white jacket featuring a large popped collar. Her accessories included silver heels, black sunglasses, and a diamond necklace.

A standout element of her look was a pair of silver crystal Jimmy Choo pumps, retailing at $4,900. She styled her honey-blonde hair in soft waves and kept her makeup minimal with light blush and pinkish-brown lipstick.

Over time, Blue Ivy has developed her own distinct fashion identity. While she occasionally references her mother’s influence, she has increasingly embraced Gen-Z aesthetics, including Y2K-inspired styling.

She was recently seen in baggy jeans paired with a denim bag, and earlier this year at the Super Bowl, she wore shield sunglasses and carried a Balenciaga Neo Cagole City bag, a look later echoed by North West.

Her Met Gala appearance adds to a growing list of high-profile red carpet moments, including her debut at the ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ premiere in a gold Christian Siriano dress and appearances at the Grammys in designs by Vivienne Westwood and Naeem Khan.
