Trump airport renaming sparks bomb threat, public backlash at Palm Beach airport
PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Angry messages, boycott threats, and even a bomb threat have flooded Palm Beach International Airport after Florida approved a plan to rename the facility in honor of President Donald J. Trump. The proposal has triggered widespread public reaction even before the change is formally implemented.
The airport, located about five miles from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, is set to be renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport on July 9. The decision has already sparked intense debate among travelers, residents, and aviation stakeholders.
Airport braces for backlash as Trump renaming move advances
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation in March approving the rebranding of the airport. The change also includes an unusual adjustment to its aviation code, shifting from PBI to DJT.

The proposal has divided opinion even before new signage or branding updates have been installed. Records obtained through a Florida Public Records Act request show dozens of public comments submitted between March and mid-May, many opposing the decision.
Some travelers warned they would stop using the airport altogether, while others called on officials to reverse the decision before it takes effect.
Public backlash escalates with boycott calls and threats
A significant portion of public feedback expressed strong opposition to the renaming plan. Several commenters said they would avoid the airport entirely if the change goes through, reflecting growing frustration around the decision.
One commenter said, "I will never again utilize PBI for any travel plans now that it is named for the orange-headed clown."
Another wrote, "If you actually change the name of this airport and honor that man, I will make it my mission in life to never, ever, EVER spend a penny at your airport."
Among the submissions, one message referenced a bomb threat involving explosive devices unless a multimillion-dollar demand was met. Authorities have not publicly detailed whether that specific threat was investigated.
Officials respond as $5.5 million rebrand cost draws scrutiny
The airport has acknowledged public concern through a frequently asked questions section on its website, stating it understands travelers may hold differing views about the name change while emphasizing its commitment to operations and passenger experience.
Local estimates suggest the renaming effort, including updated signage, branding, and infrastructure changes, could cost around $5.5 million.
