WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump used a recent interview to turn the spotlight on CBS’s Margaret Brennan, with press secretary Karoline Leavitt joining him in taking direct shots at the veteran journalist.

The exchange occurred during a Daily Caller interview, where Trump shifted from discussing the news media to questioning his press secretary about the 'Face the Nation' host.

Donald Trump mocks CBS anchors in Daily Caller interview

In his remarks, Trump dismissed well-known CBS anchors, comparing their roles and salaries. He argued that supporting MAGA is ultimately beneficial for media companies.

“People don’t realize how big our market is. You know? It’s like if they had Nora O’Donnell, anybody could do this. You could take 50% of the women off the street, they’d do just as good. Pay her 12 million a year, and she’s not going to be there very long."

Trump added, "But if she’s not already out, I mean, she’s pretty close, I would say she’s pretty close, but, the other ones too. The ‘Face the Nation.’ The woman on the ‘Face the Nation‘ is so bad.”

Karoline Leavitt slams Margaret Brennan and asks that it be put on record

During the Daily Caller interview, correspondent Reese asked, “Kristen Welker, right?” Trump corrected him, replying, “Well, now Kristen Welker is NBC.” Reese then praised Trump for his knowledge and admitted that he knows more than she does. Trump replied, “Kristen Welker is NBC. She’s, you know.”

At that point, Karoline Leavitt identified the CBS host by name, saying, “Margaret Brennan.” Reese confirmed, “Margaret Brennan, right.” Trump then asked, “Margaret Brennan. What do you think of her?” to which Leavitt responded, “She’s stupid. You can put that on the record.”

Trump added, “She’s nasty,” and Leavitt agreed, saying, “Yes.”

Marco Rubio's clash with Margaret Brennan

The exchange followed Brennan’s recent interviews with senior administration officials.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio clashed with Brennan during an August 17 broadcast after she questioned whether European leaders accompanying Volodymyr Zelensky to the US for Ukraine peace talks were doing so to prevent him from being bullied by Trump.

“That’s why you have these European leaders coming as backup tomorrow. Can you reassure them?” Brennan asked.

Rubio pushed back, saying, “That’s not true.” He added, “They’re not coming here tomorrow to keep Zelensky from being bullied. They’re coming here tomorrow because we’ve been working with the Europeans. We talked to them last week. There were meetings in the UK over the following, the previous weekend.”

Rubio later fired back at Brennan for pushing a “stupid media narrative.”

Internet reacts as Karoline Leavitt and Donald Trump target Margaret Brennan

Online reactions were largely supportive of Trump and Leavitt, though some pushed back against their remarks.

“They’re not wrong,” wrote one person on X. Another added, “Both are correct.”

A third reaction read, “And those are her good qualities!” Others criticized Leavitt, with one user writing, “Not a popular take but Karoline Leavitt is a liability to this administration.”

Another comment pushed back on her tone: “Is that her argument for everything @PressSec @karolineleavitt she’s stupid? She is a seasoned professional. You are young and immature.”
