WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald J Trump launched a sharp attack on television host Bill Maher on Saturday, February 14, calling a past Oval Office meeting with the comedian a “total waste of time” and accusing him of suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS).

In a Truth Social post, the president said that Maher had requested a dinner through mutual friends, a meeting Trump said he had agreed to despite reservations.

Trump claimed Maher had appeared visibly nervous upon arriving at the White House and displayed “ZERO confidence.”

According to the president, Maher asked for a “Vodka Tonic” shortly after entering the Oval Office.

Trump described the dinner as “quick and easy” and said that Maher seemed like a “nice guy” in person, but added that the host later returned to what he called his usual “Very boring, ANTI TRUMP” commentary on television.

Trump highlights historic national achievements

In his post, Trump contrasted Maher’s criticism with what he described as major accomplishments of his administration.

He cited a “PERFECT Border,” historically low crime rates, and what he called the “Mass Removal of Stone Cold Criminals.” He also referenced stock market milestones, including a 50,000 Dow and a 7,000 S&P, describing them as record highs.

“With everything I have done in bringing our Country back from ‘OBLIVION,’ why wouldn’t he be [respectful]?” Trump wrote.

He further pointed to the reportedly targeted killings of Qasem Soleimani and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as well as recent inflation data that he said showed a 1.2% rate over the past three months.

The president also highlighted military rebuilding efforts as part of his broader record.

Canada hockey 'joke' sparks confusion

Trump also addressed the controversy surrounding a prior comment about Canada and trade.

He clarified that a statement suggesting that China would end ice hockey in Canada and eliminate the Stanley Cup had been “jokingly stated” on Truth Social.

The president criticized Maher for interpreting the remark literally, asking, “What kind of a person would say such a foolish thing as this,” while missing what Trump described as obvious humor.

He accused Maher of amplifying what he called “Fake News” narratives and claimed that the host’s ratings were too low to significantly influence public opinion.

Trump compared Maher to other late-night hosts, including Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and Stephen Colbert, adding that Maher was “slightly more talented” than some of his peers.

Trump also directed a message to Republican allies, cautioning them against portraying Maher as evidence of a broader ideological shift on the Left.

He described Maher as a “highly overrated LIGHTWEIGHT” and said members of the MAGA base rejected attempts to treat the host as politically significant.

The president concluded by stating that Maher and a friend had allegedly expressed interest in attending a White House Christmas Party, but did not follow up.

“Regardless, I’d much rather spend my time MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN than wasting it on him,” Trump wrote, reiterating his claim that Maher’s criticism stemmed from what he described as a “very serious disease” of TDS.
