BRONX, NEW YORK: A confrontation erupted between Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) amid a wider political feud involving President Donald Trump.
Ocasio-Cortez claimed that Greene had been preparing for a statewide campaign earlier this year before Trump personally told her not to move forward. She suggested that the decision may have triggered Greene’s recent criticism of Republican leadership and the former president himself.
AOC says Trump blocked Greene’s Senate plans
During an Instagram livestream, Ocasio-Cortez addressed Greene’s recent remarks and behavior, saying there was a reason behind the Georgia Republican’s growing frustration with party leaders.
“Here’s some tea for you,” Ocasio-Cortez told her viewers. “MTG—people are like, ‘Oh my God, she’s saying all these things, what’s gotten into her lately?’ She’s bucking against Trump, she’s bucking against the administration.”
The New York Democrat continued, claiming Greene had ambitions to move from the House to the Senate but was blocked from doing so.
She claimed “She wanted to run for Senate earlier this year in the state of Georgia, she wanted to be the Republican nominee for Senate. So, she was gearing up for that statewide race, and Trump told her no.”
Ocasio-Cortez went on to say that Greene’s recent defiance toward the administration and party leadership stemmed from that rejection.
“Trump said no, and the White House and Trump Land shut down Marjorie Taylor Greene’s personal ambitions to run for Senate,” she added. “And she has been on a revenge tour ever since.”
Marjorie Taylor Greene voices concern over Trump and GOP
In May, Greene publicly announced that she would not enter Georgia’s Senate race next year to challenge incumbent Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA).
“Someone once said, ‘The Senate is where good ideas go to die.’ They were right,” Greene said at the time. “That’s why I’m not running. I won’t fight for a team that refuses to win.”

She also suggested that even with more Republicans in the Senate, little would change. “Even with a few good Republicans in the Senate, nothing changes,” she said.
“Jon Ossoff isn’t the real problem. He’s just a vote, a pawn, no different than the Uniparty Republicans who skip key votes to attend fundraisers and let our agenda fail,” she added.
Despite speculation about her relationship with Trump, Greene acknowledged in a recent interview on 'The View' that the former president “may not be happy” with her criticism of the GOP’s performance.
Still, she has continued to voice concern about her party’s direction, warning that Republicans could lose control of the House if Americans’ financial challenges persist.
“I can’t see into the future, but I see Republicans losing the House if Americans are continuing to go paycheck to paycheck,” Greene told Semafor last month. “They’ll definitely be going into the midterms looking through the lens of their bank account.”
