WASHINGTON, DC: Former president Donald Trump took to social media on Tuesday, August 13, to address his “different and strange” voice during a two-hour conversation with tech billionaire Elon Musk on X’s live audio feature, Spaces.

Trump’s comments come after critics noticed unusual speech patterns during the event which was marred by technical glitches.

Donald Trump claims technology made his voice sound 'strange' during Elon Musk interview

Donald Trump described the conversation with Elon Musk as “really something special,” attributing the strangeness of his voice to the “complexity of modern-day equipment and cellphone technology.”

He stated on Truth Social, “My conversation with Elon last night was heard by a RECORD audience and was really something special, as Elon himself is very special – and I thank him for such a strong Endorsement!”

He added, “Unfortunately, because of the complexity of modern day equipment, and cellphone technology, my voice was, in certain areas, somewhat different and strange. Therefore, we have put out an actual, and perfect, recording of the conversation.”

Donald Trump's interview with Elon Musk was plagued by delays and technical issues

The conversation between Donald Trump and Elon Musk, which lasted roughly two hours, was delayed by about 40 minutes due to a technical glitch.

Musk initially blamed the delay on a server attack but later attributed it to “unforced errors” and mistakes by his X team.

“Given the prominence of this conversation, there was of course a 100% probability of DDOS attacks,” Musk said, referring to a “Distributed Denial of Service” – an online site breakdown that occurs when fake users flood its server and block incoming traffic.

"We also had some unforced errors ourselves,” he said, adding “But good work by the X team fending off the attacks and fixing our mistakes! All’s well that ends well.”

Critics and others listening to the chat pointed out that Trump, at times, sounded like he had a lisp or was struggling to enunciate clearly during the session on X.

BBC live-blogged the conversation and recorded more than 20,000 posts on X mentioning the term “slurring” and 15,000 using the word “dentures.”

Donald Trump's critics criticize him for claims made during Elon Musk interview

The interview occurred as Donald Trump aimed to recover from challenging weeks in his electoral campaign and counter the growing momentum of Kamala Harris' campaign.

Although Trump largely focused on policy during the conversation, he faced backlash for praising Musk's decision to fire striking workers at one of his companies, according to The Hill.

The United Auto Workers filed federal labor charges against Trump and Musk for intimidating and threatening workers.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign described Trump and Musk as “self-obsessed rich guys” and took a jab at their livestream issues.

“Donald Trump extremism and dangerous Project 2025 agenda is a feature not a glitch of his campaign, which was on full display for those unlucky enough to listen in tonight during whatever that was on X.com,” the Harris campaign wrote in its statement.

Internet mocks Donald Trump for raising concerns over his voice during interview with Elon Musk

Majority of the social media users mocked Donald Trump for raising an unimportant issue of his voice from Elon Musk's interview. Some were adamant it was his dentures which made him lisp while others blamed his age.

“This being the focus speaks volumes lol.” Another user asked, “Not dentures, then?”

One more person added, “It wasn’t ‘technology,’ it was gravity. He was leaning forward the entire time. His lisp was caused by the gravity pull on his dentures. It’s why he couldn’t pronounce the S-words when his tongue hits the roof of his mouth. Used to happen to my dad all the time.”

Others speculated on Trump's cognitive state, with one user saying, “I listened to the interview. Trump ‘slurred’ his speech. Remember things wrong. He is really old, old.. 78. IT IS natural that he forgets.”

Another user wrote, “It’s called mental and cognitive decline, Donald.” One more added, “Always someone else’s fault. All his f***ups. Donald is a whining little b****.”
