WASHINGTON, DC: George Washington Law Professor Randall Eliason, a former federal prosecutor, urged US District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan to confiscate former President Donald Trump's passport after he hinted that he would potentially move to Venezuela if he didn't win the 2024 presidential election.

The allegation of election interference following the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, had led to pending charges against the 78-year-old MAGA strongman, according to RawStory.

On Tuesday, August 13, George Washington Law Professor Randall Eliason requested US District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan to seize former President Donald Trump's passport after he insinuated that he might flee to Venezuela if he ends up losing the 2024 election (United States District Court for the District of Columbia)

As Eliason highlighted in his X post on Tuesday, Judge Chutkan did not ask the ex-president to surrender his passport at his initial arraignment.

What did legal expert suggest to Judge Tanya Chutkan in his social media post?

Randall Eliason replied to a clip of former President Trump’s X Spaces discussion with Elon Musk on Monday where he suggested that he might flee to Venezuela if he loses the 2024 election and invited the billionaire entrepreneur to visit him there.

Eliason tweeted, “I pulled up Trump's conditions of release in DC. Judge Chutkan did NOT require him to surrender his passport. (See box 7(d)).”

“In light of this interview, Smith should move to modify Trump's release conditions and have her require that he give up his passport,” he wrote on X.

On Monday night, the 2024 Republican presidential nominee mentioned the possibility of losing the 2024 election in a rare moment of vulnerability during his conversation with Elon Musk.

“And again I told you that crime rates all over the world are going way down, which makes sense the fact the next time what we'll do is if something happens with this election, which would be a horror show, we'll meet the next time in Venezuela, because it'll be a far safer place to meet than our country,” the ex-POTUS argued, adding. “Okay, so we'll go, you and I will go and we'll have a meeting and dinner in Venezuela because that's what's happening.”

The discussion between Trump and Elon Musk lasted over two hours and experienced a 40-minute delay due to technical issues.

Internet abuzz over plea to Judge Chutkan to confiscate Trump's passport

One X user remarked, "I would have no problems w him fleeing, for many it would puncture any pretense that he was a martyr."

Another user said, "I have to believe that the Secret Service agents on his detail would stop him from leaving the country."

Another user wrote, "I’m okay with him running away."

One X user asserted, "I have no problem with him leaving as long as he never comes back."

Another user argued, "Get real ... if Trump flees the US, he's going to some other dictator's place ... and no passport will be required there for entry. He's not going to be flying on a US-domiciled commercial airline."

Another user claimed, "I doubt not having a passport will deter him. He’ll just flee anyway."

One X user contended, "He has his own plane. What will surrendering his passport accomplish?"

Finally, this user tweeted, "This would not only be reasonable it would absolutely be required of anyone else. Take his passport."
