“This is a big blow to the SAVE America Act, let me tell you,” Trump told Welker.

Trump said he spoke with Graham earlier Saturday night, saying the late senator had just landed from Ukraine and said “we’re all set for the SAVE America Act.”

“He sounded a little tired but perfect, but a little bit tired, and had a right to be,” the president continued.

“He was a worker, he was really a worker. But he sounded great, actually, but he actually said he was tired. But he wanted to pass the SAVE America Act, and I said, ‘We’re going to get it done, Lindsey, we’re going to get it done, I’ll see you, like soon. We might even meet today.'”

Asked by host Welker what his last words were to Graham, the president said he would “see you soon.”

“‘Come over anytime you want,'” he continued. “He came into the White House a lot because I liked him. Can’t do that with everybody.”

Trump knows who will replace Graham, refuses to reveal name

President Donald Trump revealed he already has someone in mind to succeed Sen Lindsey Graham in the US Senate, but said he will not disclose the name yet, arguing it is "too soon" following the longtime South Carolina Republican's death.

“I have somebody that I think would be great, but I don’t want to say it now because it just, you know, it’s too soon with Lindsey,” Trump said in the interview.

“They’ll have some people joining. Some are good, some are bad,” he said. “I never thought I’d be in this position. I thought Lindsey was going to be living forever … He was going to win by a lot.”

Trump pays tribute to ‘true patriot’

Trump announced Graham’s death in an emotional statement, describing him as one of his closest allies in Congress.
