UNIONDALE, NEW YORK: Former President Donald Trump confessed he did not read his wife, Melania Trump's upcoming memoir because he was "so busy."

Nevertheless, in a campaign speech at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, on Wednesday, September 18, the GOP presidential nominee urged his supporters to buy it.

"People love our First Lady. Go out and get a book. She just wrote a book. I hope she said good things about... I don’t know. I didn’t... so busy," Trump said, as per The Independent.

The memoir titled 'Melania' is set to hit the stores on October 8.

Donald Trump jokes 'don't buy' Melania Trump's book if it has 'bad things' about him

Donald Trump gave a shoutout to his wife's latest book and joked about the chance of anything unfavorable being written about him.

"She just wrote a book called Melania. Go out and buy it, and if she says bad things about me, I’ll call you all up and I'll say, don't buy it," the real estate mogul added.

Melania, who has maintained a low profile during her husband's presidential campaign with minimal public appearances, recently became active on social media to promote her memoir with a series of videos.

In a video earlier this month, Melania hinted at a conspiracy behind the first assassination attempt on the 45th President, when he was shot in the ear during a Pennsylvania rally on July 13. She called for the truth to be "uncovered," questioning why law enforcement failed to arrest the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, before he opened fire.

Since then, Trump faced a second assassination attempt on September 15 when Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, tried to shoot the MAGA leader who was playing golf at his Florida golf course.

In a September 5 video promoting her book, Melania stated that it aims to present her perspective, referring to it as "the truth," in response to the public scrutiny and misrepresentation she has faced as a private individual.

Is Donald Trump a reader?

Donald Trump is often considered not as much of a reader as his predecessor, Barack Obama, who is known to be an avid reader.

In 2016, the real estate mogul disclosed that his favorite books were his own works, 'The Art of the Deal' (1987) and 'Surviving at the Top' (1990). It is believed that he has read Erich Maria Remarque's World War I-themed book 'All Quiet on the Western Front.'

In a 2015 interview, Donald Trump declined to reveal his favorite Bible passage, stating that it was a very personal matter.

Another anecdote about Donald Trump's reading comprehension came from journalist Michael Wolff, who discussed the former president in his controversial book 'Fire and Fury.'

"He didn’t process information in any conventional sense. He didn’t read. He didn’t really even skim. Some believed that for all practical purposes, he was no more than semi-literate," the author claimed.

Internet mocks Donald Trump for saying he was 'busy' to read Melania Trump's book

Donald Trump's admission of not reading his wife Melania Trump's upcoming memoir sparked online mockery, with netizens suggesting he was either too busy playing golf or unable to read.

"Golfing does take a lot of time," a user said. "Trump can't read a teleprompter, there's no way he's reading an actual book," another added.

"He's never read a book in his life, why would he start now??" a third user asked.

"That's OK. Melania hasn't read 'her' book either. Nobody in the family reads anything but social media," read a response.

"He's afraid of what she might have said about him," another joked.

"He lies about everything else. He lied about reading the Bible. But not this? He's breaking apart," someone else wrote.

"Trump can't process written information. And, as a consequence, likely does very little reading," an individual remarked.

"Intellectually illiterate," read another remark.
