The president spoke for 1 hour, 47 minutes, and 40 seconds, surpassing his own congressional address record of 1 hour, 39 minutes, and 32 seconds in 2025. Bill Clinton’s 2000 address ranks as the third longest at 1 hour, 28 minutes, and 49 seconds. Trump's speech began at approximately 9:11 pm and concluded at 10:59 pm. It included an estimated 10,599 words, making it the longest spoken address in US history.

Delivered ahead of the midterm elections, the address focused on key policy priorities and the president’s vision for the nation’s future. Trump also congratulated the national ice hockey team and discussed several policy initiatives, including a bill that would ban congressional stock trading. Democrats, including Senator Elizabeth Warren, praised the idea as a step toward greater government transparency.

Trump encouraged Congress to pass the Stop Insider Trading Act, which was introduced in the House last month. As he spoke, he received strong applause from members of both parties, including Senator Warren.

For context, Trump’s 2025 address to a joint session of Congress reached an estimated 36.6 million viewers, while Joe Biden’s 2024 State of the Union drew 32.2 million.

Looking at a broader historical perspective, Barack Obama’s first address in 2009 attracted 52.4 million viewers, with his addresses through 2016 drawing between 31.3 million and just over 50 million viewers. Bill Clinton’s 1993 State of the Union speech still holds the record for the highest audience, drawing 67 million viewers, according to CNBC.

Trump’s 2026 State of the Union reaffirmed his visibility and influence in politics as the nation approaches the midterm elections.
