WASHINGTON, DC: When confronted about the story of Texas resident Kate Cox, who was refused access to a medical abortion in the state, Sen Ted Cruz didn't have much to say.

As per a ruling in the state's supreme court, the 31-year-old woman wasn't allowed to terminate her pregnancy even though her fetus possessed trisomy 18, a chromosomal disorder among other health issues, and would have only been able to live for a few days after birth.

Moreover, continuing the pregnancy would have put a risk on Cox's life and jeopardized her future fertility.

This came after a lower court judge had ruled in favor of Cox, only for the Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton to threaten physicians against repercussions in case they performed an abortion on the woman.

He also filed an appeal, leading to the state's top court siding with him. As per Cox's attorneys, she had to resort to going out of state to get the abortion.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz denies to comment on Kate Cox's abortion case

On Tuesday, December 12, Sen John Cornyn and Sen Cruz were asked to comment on Cox's abortion case, as per Mediaite

Kate Santaliz of NBC News asked Sen Cornyn, "Do you support with the Texas attorney general did in blocking Kate Cox from getting an abortion after she found out her fetus was not viable?"

He answered, "That’s strictly a matter of state law, not federal law." She asked again, "Are you concerned about women in your state whose health may be at risk by Texas law?"

Cornyn replied, "Well, I’m a federal official, not a state official, so I’m not gonna comment on what state officials are doing."

She proceeded to ask Cruz, "Senator, I wanted to get your thoughts on what the Texas attorney general’s doing in the case against Kate Cox and blocking her receiving an abortion? Do you have any comment on that?" to which he replied, "Just call our press office."

"Do you agree with Attorney General Paxton’s actions and what he did?" reiterated Santaliz and Cruz repeated, "Just call our press office."

Internet slams Ted Cruz for dodging questions about Kate Cox's abortion case

As Sen Cruz refused to answer questions about Cox's abortion case, netizens took to slam him for being insensitive.

One said, "What a coward," while another noted, "Papa Trump hasn’t told him what to say."

A person remarked, "The coward is afraid to speak because he is up for re-election and doesn't want to talk about abortion in Texas."

Someone else chimed in, "No Ted. You’ve got a mouth for everything else. Why not women’s rights? You do have daughters, don’t you? Stand up for them for God’s sake."

"Even he is embarrassed about what Texas did to this woman," remarked an individual.
